Whilst BELOW is a perilous, tense, and dangerous descent into the unknown, Superbrothers is the perfect counterpart for relaxation and pondering on your handheld, or simply the perfect entry point into Capy's games if you don't have access to a Microsoft platform. Not only does it hold up, but it's the best version of this indie gem.

Matching pixel stylings with the ambient soundscapes of Jim Guthrie makes Swordbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP a wonderfully weird journey with a good balance of action and puzzle-puzzle-solving.

The video game equivalent of a concept album, and a hugely successful mix of visual, music, and gameplay influences.

Sword and Sorcery has some great, unique storytelling elements that give the game a chill yet mildly creepy vibe, though I assure that’s a good thing. From the quirky names (Logfella – the woodsman/farmer type, Dogfella – your dog, Gogolithic Mass – creepy antler dude) to the surreal, earthy, and dreamy atmosphere, to the utmost commitment to using second person narration, Sword and Sworcery portrays an off-the-beaten path story with intrigue galore. If you’re looking for all of this in a handheld game experience, Sword and Sworcery will be the perfect fit for you.

Superbrothers is a good game. It provides the player with a charming story with great puzzles. And yet, the controls and combat find a way to fall short. They bring this game down to an experience that, like many, you’ll only want to have once. It is definitely worth a play for the price, on mobile or console. Whether it’s worth more than one is up to you. I had my fun but I’ll be moving on and placing Superbrothers in the depths of my library… I’ll pick it up again another day, but not today, as I’ve got bigger fish to fry.

There isn’t any other game on the eShop quite like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, which is both a good and bad thing. On one hand, this offers up a well-paced, thought-provoking, and artistic experience that you won’t soon forget, but it’s also short and isn’t always ‘fun’ in the traditional way that games usually are. If you’ve got some gold coins to burn or want a game that’s a bit more mentally engaging than what you’d usually find on the eShop, we’d give Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP a recommendation. Otherwise, you should probably wait for a sale or just steer clear.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is an exploration and puzzle game that has one of the best soundtracks from any video game in the lastSuperbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is an exploration and puzzle game that has one of the best soundtracks from any video game in the last decade. The game was originally released for old IOS and then PC, but don't let that deter you - this is a quality game in every sense of the word.

The art style and spritework are so beautifully unique and fit the intriguingly mysterious world that S&S is set in, as well as it's music, performed by Jim Guthrie (who actually appears in-game and you can jam out with him in your dreams). The characters are charmingly self-aware, almost as if they're just conduits for the developers to say obscure things to the player. They are conduits who you will become attached to, however.

Although this game is quite short, it is supposed to be played in parts. The game is split into chapters - or 'sessions' - where we have a narrator before and every session describe the game as an experiment to cure soul sickness. Some parts of the game will be locked to you until the cycle of the moon in real life changes, as this is how the game works. It is designed to be enjoyed over time, and it will not give you the satisfaction of hitting 100% completion if you cheat. There is a workaround in-game, though, but I prefer not to use it. You can, though. If you can find it.

In conclusion, I adore this game. I've adored it for the good part of a decade. I play it when my soul feels sick and Jim Guthrie's soundtrack patches it back up. Thank you Superbrothers

The answer was notI bought this game because I’d come across the soundtrack on YouTube and was curious about what sort of game it went to. The answer was not what I expected - S&S is an exploration and puzzle based game that tends to talk directly to the player. If I could sum it up in a word, I’d say it’s endearing. Usually I pass over mobile ports, but S&S has me enthralled with the music and mystery within. At first it can be hard to get your bearings but once you learn where to look, it’s simpler to understand. I haven’t given it a 10 because it’s a relatively short game, but it manages to immerse the player in its world. Expand
