With no friends and nothing to do, Violett imagines a boring life in the countryside spent watching from the window of her bedroom as one day bleeds into the next. Never would she expect that a curious light coming from a nearby mouse hole would lure her into a magnificent and dangerous world where frogs sing opera, garden gnomes are emissaries from another dimension, and the power of telekinesis is old news! Fight the evil Spider Queen as you roam the beautiful, psychedelic world, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Sandman, Dali and more! Expand

Violett is a pretty looking point and click title that does have its moments but is let down by poor storytelling and some strange design choices. Fans of the genre and newcomers alike will find the game to have a certain charm, but frustrations will creep in and I found myself appreciating the stalwarts of the genre even more by the time I saw the end credits.

At its heart Violett is a classically designed point-and-click adventure, warts and all. It tells an interesting tale in a world filled with oddity and excitement, but it's told in an unintuitive manner that only the most stalwart fan of the genre will likely stick with. It tries to cast its net wide by offering a clever hint system to help players survive its obtuse nature, but nevertheless only the most patient will try to come back out of the rabbit hole.

I wanted to like Violett, but it just required more patience than I was willing to give. The opening hooked me, and knowing going in that this was a point-and-click adventure on Switch felt like it would be a good idea. But all of these problems really hurt my experience, which is a major bummer. Violett recommends being played portably because it relies on the touch screen (which I can’t bare to use…it’s like putting on a contact lens without washing your hands). But you can use the control sticks and buttons while in handheld or docked. It doesn’t feel great though, because the cursor isn’t just slow to move across the screen, but also slow to just shift icons from an arrow to the yeah, you can interact with this icon. If you want to spend a few hours pulling out your hair and testing the level of patience you have for puzzle games, be my guest and pick this one up.

Violett itself is an enjoyable point and click adventure, but it also has so many glitches and even a game-breaking bug that renders it pointless for purchase on Nintendo Switch. Since the error stems from the touch screen controls, anyone intrigued by this would be better off trying out Violett Remastered on PC to witness its charms without the problems.

Violett’s landscapes are a true work of art, but they’re the setting for a series of point-and-click puzzles that are too abstract to make the game a must-have.

Not great... but priced accordingly with what the game has on offer.

It is (quite) decent point&click adventure game with really nice visuals but some awkward moments in terms of mechanics & story telling. It could have been good but something went not perfect and well, I have mixed feelings. Expand
