War Tech Fighters is simply good enough. The gameplay seems limited since you don't get a sense of movement, and specific mech fighting is restricted to quick fights with other mechs and one-hit cut scene kills, but the constant flow of action mitigates that a bit. The side missions and grinding for cash makes up for a lack of multiplayer, and the presentation is fine but nothing feels like it's state of the art. War Tech Fighters won't be your next all-time favorite mech game, but you'll still have a good time rolling through the campaign.
Overall, WTF is a capable fast-paced game clearly aimed at fans of East/Gundam-style robot fights than more Western/weighty robot realistic representations. The game has a serious problem with feedback that never really goes away, but it should provide enough meaningless fun for anyone who’s really interested in the subject matter.
If you are looking for a cool, intense, robot game, if you love to stay hours editing your mech, if you are obsessed by complete every challenge and every mission to reach the best score, if you want a challenging game with a cool and compelling story, WTF is the game you need.
From its story, to its aesthetic, to its gameplay, War Tech Fighters feels like a traditional mecha anime brought to life. It's by no means perfect, often falling into the tedium of repetitive as far as its combat is concerned, but its presentation and novelty are more than enough to keep it a memorable experience all throughout. It perhaps also could have benefited from a story that felt more appropriate and in sync with the genre it's paying tribute to, but, as is, War Tech Fighters is a charming take on the giant robot niche with plenty of love to give around.
It does its job well as a Gundam-style mech shooter, but it just doesn’t do quite enough to keep me going back in for more action. The majority of levels are just “go here, shoot this, follow that”, which unfortunately gets very repetitive after a couple of hours. There’s a lot you can do with customisation, though.
I’ve been waiting for a good action game with mechs for quite a while and WTF did not reward my patience. It’s a simple, low budget game lacking in every single aspect and dated in terms of execution. [10/2018, p.51]
For mecha lovers this a must-have! Crazy shootings, epic duels with sword and shield against other mecha, lethal moves to be made against the enemy ships and, last but not least, a solid story that defines the whole background. All in a galactic context where it is possible to move in all directions.
Ladies and gentlemen this is War Tech Fighters!
