Where "San Andreas" has size, variety and freedom, DPL has size, physics and handling. The mission design prevents the content from truly impressing. [Apr 2006, p.44]
Sure, the improvements to the heat level are fantastic, and it’s great to have a game that has really solid handling and physics, but it would have been nice to see the series break a little more new ground.
Aside from the obvious problems, the real problem is that nearly every part of the now-aged Driver formula has been done better elsewhere. [May 2006, p.98]
Overall, Parallel Lines is a step in the right direction for the series, but it ultimately feels like it's setting its ambitions way to low. [May 2006, p.73]
Driver: Parallel Lines is an underrated games that is awesome ! This is epic must play game !
Game was released in 2006 ... what means that graphic of this game was next gen for other games of 2006 .
This game needs more attention from gamers !
Don't let the awful Driv3r put you off this. It's got nice graphics, good selection of cars, all with much better handling than the arcade physics found in the PS2 GTA games. The shooting is decent, and the drive-bys are better than GTA due to a lock-on and you can still control the car well. Melee combat is practically non-existent. Story-wise, it's again nowhere near the monster that is GTA but it's a pretty good story of revenge, characters are average but i did like the protagonist, TK. He's got more personality than Tanner anyway. It has some decent car mods and missions are fine. All around good game but it doesn't have the depth of GTA.
I like the more driving-focused style of an open world gta-style game. Some things are better than in San Andreas, which in almost every other aspect is the better game: driving mechanics are more like racing game than GTA, the car is not trashed that utterly easy as SA, and you can escape the police by changing the car unseen, which is very nice and brings some stealth aspect into the game. But somehow DPL and GTA SA are not compareable, because San Andreas is not a mere driving game which Driver Parallel Lines is despite the fact that you can walk around and shoot.
However the missions are much too hard from the very start, so I was frustrated very often, when I tried to advance in the story or earn a little money in the game. But for people who like more challenge and can handle unsuccess easily it might be a good game.
This game is alright. Sure, it was doomed being a sequel to one of the worst games of all time and it didn't look much better in the trailers but hey, its still a fun game. The graphics and textures are still lame. The cutscenes actually look really good, but it shows that Atari spent more money developing the cutscenes than improving the game. The game is set in 1970s NYC, and has an awesome soundtrack and a realistic representation of the city. There aren't as many weapons to choose from unlike the typical GTA game, but the grenade launcher is a LOT of fun. One unique aspect of the games story is that one portion is set in the 70s and the final portion of the game is set in the 2000s, so the vehicles are a mixture of vintage and new, which is fine by me. The AI is still insanely dumb, which makes for some very easy missions. All in all, a slightly better version of Driv3r.
SummaryDriver: Parallel Lines is the next installment of Atari's legendary franchise action driving game. As the only game that offers an open, fast-paced driving action-movie experience, Driver: Parallel Lines features an unfolding storyline of double crossing and revenge. Set in a photorealistic interpretation of New York City, players take o...
