Withering Rooms blends elements from classic survival horror games like Clock Tower and modern roguelikes, offering a tense experience where death resets progress but rearranges the mansion's rooms, providing a fresh challenge each time. Despite technical limitations and lack of Spanish text, its mix of combat, puzzles, and atmosphere delivers a compelling horror adventure.
In the end, Withering Rooms’ somewhat clunky and graceless combat is not enough to seriously detract from what it does well. Withering Rooms looks unlike any recent game in the genre. Its setting is haunting and haunted and its blend of roguelike, puzzle, and action mechanics guarantees variety. It’s a compelling choice for fans of action games with more than a dash of horror.

Withering Rooms provides a great horror RPG experience with its gameplay. You never stop being a fragile girl trying to leave a horrible dream. But the tools to fight back give you courage and let you battle the undead. Coming up with strategies is genuinely rewarding and adds variety to the combat. Learning from your mistakes and making death painful forces you to pay attention. The story isn’t as strong as it could be and some aspects could use better explanations. However, Withering Rooms is not a horror experience you want to miss if you’ve been looking for a challenge.
Withering Rooms feels like a fresh take on the roguelike genre. A clunky combat system and a story that doesn’t quite draw players in aside, this is still an enjoyable game and a good first attempt for the developer.
You can always depend on the indie game scene to try new things, and Withering Rooms is no exception. A thoughtful implementation of the rogue-like formula into a horror scenario makes for a great combination. Combat offers an up-and-down experience that leaves an imbalance between magic and melee, especially since melee leaves you suffering cheap shots from time to time. Despite the snags along the way, Withering Rooms adds its own ideas into the genre, making this a must-buy for any fan of the spooky stuff.
Withering Rooms tells an unhinged story of various descents into insanity. Nightingale Williams is an interesting focal point for these crazed inhabitants that all dwell inside an ancient idol’s dream world. This great hook is partnered with a robust roguelite inventory to make things a harrowing survival with every step. Mostyn House is not for the faint of heart, those braving the corridors of this nightmare will find a fun yet disturbing time, just be prepared to swap between difficulties in some situations.
Part roguelike, part horror, part puzzle adventure, we've not played anything quite like Withering Rooms before. It's a little scrappy, and we wish combat was better, but there's something about it that will keep us coming back.
Summary Withering Rooms is a 2.5D horror adventure set in a procedurally generated Victorian mansion that changes each night. Sneak through Mostyn House to gather weapons, distractions, magical artifacts, keys, and crafting materials.
