I enjoyed every second of it. Everything about Oxenfree was such a joy to experience. From the pacing to the art style to the story and characters, all of it meshed together so beautifully.

Oxenfree is a smart, emotional adventure that feels focused and purposeful. It’s got plenty of narrative twists that lead to great “a-ha” moments, but keeps the story well-grounded in its compelling protagonists and clever gameplay moments. Oxenfree is simply well-made, endearing, and very memorable.

With an enthralling mystery to solve while trying to survive a supernatural event, Oxenfree challenges you to solve a mystery, care about the characters, and make you want to play through the story again and again.

It's simple if judged purely on gameplay mechanics but wonderfully accomplished in terms of storytelling, characters and dialogue. If you fancy a supernatural adventure mystery with a smart plot and clever ideas, don't ignore this.

With its engaging story, its excellent voice-acting and enthralling dialogue, Oxenfree is a game to remember, marred only by its constant crashes, which is less than ideal.

No, it feels, as I said, like Oxenfree’s writers had written themselves into a corner, and figured a mostly unexplained offscreen resolution was the only way to get out of it. If you’re able to overlook that and focus on the first 95% or so that’s highly satisfying, you should still go for it, since the journey up to that point is extremely well-done, but if you want any sort of closure, be aware before you go into it that this game’s ending is going to drive you nuts.

For players who click with these characters, Oxenfree offers between four and six hours of walking around and listening to them hash out issues in their lives. I congratulate the developers on the quality and production of the dialogue, but as a whole, Oxenfree is a weightless slip of a game that left no lasting impressions.

I was so enthralled I couldn't stop playing until I reached the end of the plot. Not so much of a challenging game, but it's very much a narrative driven experience. Absolutely worth picking up for fans of sci-fi-horror, and indie games. Expand

Before you consider purchasing this title, just know that it is a story-telling game; there isn't a *ton* of interaction in it, but definitely enough to keep you entertained the whole time. I'll begin with the bad: Some of the other reviews have mentioned experiencing several glitches throughout the game where their followers would get "stuck" in places, forcing a restart. I have experienced this as well, but only once. I found that if you actually wait for your followers to finish their animations, then you shouldn't have any problems. The second thing is that the beginning may seem slow for some (it did for me). This does *not* mean the beginning is bad, by all means - but the more you play, the better it gets! The last thing that I would consider somewhat negative is the ending. Without spoiling anything, the ending is definitely... interesting, and perhaps confusing to some. It wasn't the worst I've seen in a story, but it sure did leave me wanting more and feeling somewhat incomplete inside (sounds cheesy, right?).

Now for the good. It's a story game, right? How's the story? The story was awesome! I didn't know what to expect going in, but despite the slow beginning, it still managed to hook me from the very first scene, and kept me guessing during my entire playthrough. Whenever I would take a break from the game to do some "adulting", I would just sit there and wonder what was going to happen next. The gameplay is great as well, and fitting for the type of game. Throughout the story, it gives you 2-3 dialogue options in its many, many conversations, allowing you to choose what option you think is best. If also offers several chances to make your decision between two (and sometimes more) "major" choices, which will determine the way your story will unfold, and while the general plot is the same in the big picture, the devil is in the details. The decisions you make will determine what type of ending the story gets. I saved the best for last: the voice acting. It is brilliant in this game! The young men and women that played the voice of the game's characters made the entire story so convincing, believable, and smooth. I actually had goosebumps during some of the scenes near the end! Between the voice acting, the solid plot, and the ability to make my own decisions really made me grow somewhat attached to its characters.

All in all, the game is great. I got it for free during Xbox's "Games With Gold" in September, but I would definitely tell someone to pay the $20 for the game if they asked. I will most definitely buy more games from Night School Studio if I ever see them in the future.

Got me really hooked from the openning sequence right till the end, so i finnished the whole game in one sitting. And that haven't happened to me in quite some time.
Great story and wrtiting, awe inspiring art and music. Game has a nice feel of suspence and urgency to it.

The only issues i had with it were technical. The load times were weirdly long and your followers seem to be prone to getting stuck in the environement and stay in it until you leave the area. I had numerous crashes throughout my playthrough (especially a couple of annoying ones right in the middle of the final sequence) .
Also the achievements seem to be kinda bugged since none of them unlocked upon the completion and most of them were just reset to 0. Wich kinda sucks since i spent time to 100% all of the collectibles.

Great game, but i'd avoid playing it on Xbox, for now.
