A solid second chapter to Supermassive Games' horror anthology, fixing some of the past problems and introducing a deeper and tenser plot.

I came in with high expectations for this second outing in The Dark Pictures series, but came away ever so slightly underwhelmed. It looks and sounds great, and the atmosphere and tension building is excellent. Sadly the all-important characters just didn’t quite resonate with me thanks to some sudden shifts in tone between sentences, and an overall feeling of disjointedness between scenes. Little Hope may not quite live up to Man of Medan then, but it’s still a passable bit of teen horror to fill up an evening or two.

The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is a horror game better than the first game of this Supermassive Games anthology. The story and setting will make the game a very enjoyable experience for lovers of the genre.

While still creating horror games with fairly visible flaws, Little Hope is a vast improvement of Man of Medan. With another — and perhaps the last — in The Dark Pictures anthology seemingly teased by the mysterious Curator in this one, I’m rather excited to see what Supermassive learns for next time around.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope provides an entertaining horror romp that is high on tension, but perhaps a little too low on actual scares. Regardless, its mix of good performances, excellent visuals and an intriguing mystery will keep you engrossed throughout, even if it falls a bit flat in the finale.

Like any other game from Supermassive, the visuals in Little Hope are superb and the atmosphere is super engaging, making you feel everything that the devs wanted you to feel. That said, the implementation of gameplay mechanics sometimes go horribly wrong and prevents the game from delivering a solid final product.

Uninspired characters and relatively meaningless consequences make Little Hope a bit of a slog.

I was really surprised, what critics don't love Little hope on Xone. But for me this is the very cool game. I recommend that game

Story as a whole was really really good!
I had 5 (10 in the meanwhile after second playthrough) exiting and thrilling hours and thats all I can ask for.
Of course the game system itself has flaws, which origin in how it is build, but those didn‘t bother me at all.
From my perspective better than Man of Medan which I also liked, but the tension in Little Hope is build way better.

Expand

    Little Improvement
Little hope is the second game in the dark pictures anthology, a series of interactive movie like games from the team that brought you until dawn.. and while I enjoyed Little Hope much better than man of medan, theres still a lot to be desired here…
Little Hope is a 4 our long interactive horror game that can be played solo or with a friend, here you play as a group of people after a bus swerves and crashes, youre all stuck in this abandoned ghost town called little hope with no way to escape.. the bus driver is missing and youll all set out to find him and also a way to find help.. while youre walking around youll ocassionally run into the little demon ghost girl, shell grab you and youre thrown into the past, as half of the game takes place in the 1690s witch trials.. and this are the best parts of the game.. I would have loved to play the entire game in this setting, the visuals, the acting, the charcters.. the eriness.. I loved when a ghost would grab me and take me back… and youre basically trying to solve the mystery of this little demon girl and why everyone in the past looks like the group of people youre with. Sadly the present day is so boring to get through… It was really hard to pay attention during these moments of basically just walking forward and interacting with stuff waiting to get grabbed again… that’s literally what it feels like, even when monsters are introduced to the game.. and for the first time playing a supermassive game, I felt like nothing had consequences, I felt like none of my choices ultimately mattered, leaving little to no replay value to be had here… obviously I don’t want to get into spoilers as this is a heavy story based game, but the ending here is the ending, it cant be changed, all that can be changed is the lead up to the revelation… really disappointing.
Overal though I loved this story way more than Man of Medans.. the parts of the game that take place in the oast, and trying to come up with the answer to this games story as I played made it all worth it…
Though the story is one you have little to no impact on this time and are more so just along for the ride… the story definitely saves this game from mediocrity.
    I give Little Hope
    a 7/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. More of a movie than a game. The gameplay is nothing more than moving a character around and choosing what dialogue to speak. other than that i think its a great 'game'. The dark, gloomy atmosphere is well done, voice acting and the interactions between the characters are top notch and your made to care for each of them as you equally play as all of them. The graphics, lighting and voice acting is top notch and adds to the somewhat limited horror. The horror relies on jump-scares and the creepy creatures that chase you down while nothing can be done to stop them. Think of the tyrant from Resident evil 2 but more of them and less foreboding. Overall a good horror game but won't appeal to everyone Expand

I want games, not movies. Seriously though, why do these “interactive movies” exist?
