Feb 7, 2022One of the greatest things I’ve enjoyed in my time with Vagante is slowly learning how the game works, such as discovering all the different systems within the game and familiarizing myself with all the characters and learning their strengths and weaknesses. When I first played the game, all those years ago, it was definitely a little rough around the edges. I’m happy to see it reach its final state, which is a compelling roguelike platformer RPG that should appeal to fans of any of those genres.

Feb 1, 2022Vagante is a class-based roguelike that is very challenging to master and puts a lot of emphasis on combat.

Feb 13, 2022With its neat pixel art and millimeter-tuned gameplay, Vagante is a roguelike that manages to stand out thanks to its dark-fantasy vibe and dynamism. Drawing on the best ideas from the competition, it reveals its true personality as one progresses and demonstrates that a small team can bring a fascinating game to life. It doesn't have the outfit of a Hades and would have deserved more biomes to discover, but it's an experience that should delight fans of the genre.

Feb 10, 2022Overall, I have really enjoyed the overall challenge and experience of playing Vangante. With the ever-changing levels I often have felt frustrated every time I die and have to restart from scratch again, but the bonus is that you earn XP and level up each time, slowly making overall progress. So while you may feel like it's one step forward and two back, there is a great sense of accomplishment as you progress, even if it's quite slow at times. Vagante will be on my recommendation list to anyone who loves a good challenge and enjoys the fact that no two runs are the same.

Feb 1, 2022Though I despise losing hours of hard work, there is a part of me that adores the high risk. The genre pushes you from start to end and Vagante will test you because of its solid and tough mechanics. It’s a gem of an indie title that stands out from the crowd. Disappointingly, its graphics weren’t as strong as I’d have liked, but this is a minor complaint.

Feb 7, 2022Vagante has a lot of potential that it doesn’t manage to live up to. It looks nice enough, if a little like you are viewing things through the wrong end of a pair of binoculars, and the setup is interesting. But the numb combat, instant death traps and lack of anything resembling tactics - even in the boss fights - marks it down.
