It’s all engineered to pay off in familiar ways, though the movie isn’t quite as predictable as you might think.
The delineation between good and evil maybe a bit too black-and-white throughout, but none of those aspects remove the potency of the lessons learned along the way.

This film was beautifully shot as well as being an inspirational true story. My own grandfather was in a Texas orphanage at that time. The people there truly did their best to care for him and the other children. My grandfather passed away many years ago, after a successful and long life. We still go back each year to that orphanage, to thank the community that took them in.

I’m not much of a movie goer but was enticed by family to entertain the thought. Best movie I’ve seen in years! It made me laugh, cry and feel all sorts of emotions that movies used to make u feel ! I’m saying the cast was awesome, the storyline superb, and the production and direction made the “feelings” come alive! I loved it! Kudos to u ALL! I do hope it goes far !

12 Mighty Orphans tells the true story of a Depression-era high school football team improbably formed at a Texas orphanage, but the screenplay may as well have been invented from whole cloth, given its relentlessly formulaic nature.
Wholesome in the most “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” brand of mythical Americanism, 12 Mighty Orphans is engineered to rouse emotions with uncritical pride, never reaching the less immaculate corners of the historical period it employs as canvas.
Luke Wilson and Martin Sheen are respectably earnest as the caretakers of these blandly noble underdogs, but this sepia-tinged portrait slavishly follows the playbook at every turn — which is ironic since it’s a film meant to honour a coach who won by being inventive.
12 Mighty Orphans is a plodding football drama in which the characters talk to one another like folksy social workers.
There is no denying that being parentless during the Great Depression called for a lot of resilience, but 12 Mighty Orphans’ underdog story unfortunately plays out to farce levels of entertainment.

A sweet, old school family movie. It was so much fun to hiss @ "Newman" every time he did something really bad onscreen. Very well edited. You have to cheer for the underdogs in this movie.

12,000 mighty cliches. Martin Sheen is terrific, Luke Wilson OK, Wayne Knight bad (some of that is the writing and dull direction). I doubt even the Cartoon Network would hire Lane Garrison after his "performance." The kids give the most honest and real performances... especially Jake Austin Walker, his scene in the barn towards the end is powerful and genuine - he steals this movie... but watch it on Lifetime when they play it.
