Funny, charming, with a lovely onscreen chemistry between Brie Larson and Utkarsh Ambudkar (he's one to keep an eye on). Critics decry that there is not enough originality in films today and then a unique gem like Basmati Blues comes along—–a film like no other——and then most of the critics attack it for being different. What a breath of fresh air. The cinematography is gorgeous, the singing is great, the script is hilarious.

Not nearly as bad as too many thin-skinned PC critics, etc, etc, have made out. This Hollywood homage to Bollywood features good performances and a bright, meaningful, music and song score by Rajib Karmakar. Good-looking cinematography and locations make this a different and entertaining musical treat – with young and old stars doing very well together.

It is a terrible film, and it skirts (but does not cross) the line of offensiveness...but it is undeniably watchable in the same way you can’t turn away from a talent show featuring a medley of acts that are pretty awful but quite confident they’ve got something to share.

Though the film has minor charms (the highly regarded actress can sing, and co-stars Tyne Daly and Scott Bakula are seasoned Broadway musical veterans) Basmati Blues is the kind of easily forgiven early career move that is best released on home video and forgotten.

First of all people should get paid to watch this garbage. When I mean getting paid I mean a lot of money. This is not just a waste of time but tortue for your eyes, ears and especially your intelligence.

The cringe was intense with this one, starting right off the bat with the song YES. She's the most vapid geneticist I could **** I can imagine quite a bit. Terrible editing with out-of joint plot points. I had to quit after 45 minutes. To vomit. "White saviour" motif was shameful.
