Joe Dirt 2 is wildly inconsistent, often feeling like it was slapped together quickly before someone changed their mind and put a stop payment on the financing check.
At an egregious 106 minutes, Joe Dirt 2 feels like a director’s cut where every single moment of footage was carefully preserved, no matter how pointless or unfunny or digressive it might be.
The backwoods, simple-minded humor of Joe Dirt is back in a sequel that does a pretty good job of capturing what fans liked about the original. If you liked that movie you should like this sequel. David Spade shows that a little more of the same isn't always a bad thing.
Perhaps there wasn't a really good reason to return to the character, but quite a few good jokes are able to be squeezed out of the concept. Some gags do drag on for a little too long though. As a result the initial amusement those particular scenarios had ends up getting snuffed out. It seems like the writers ride those jokes even when the tank is on empty. The movie also falls prey to going too juvenile. Was it really necessary to have an extended fart joke section early on? Or at all? It's moments like these that do drag the film down. However moments of stupid brilliance can lead to plenty of laughs, whether they be guilty or not.
Simply put, this is more Joe Dirt. It's not quite as funny as the original, but it still captures the same style of humor so it should bring laughs to those who enjoyed the first movie. With plenty of throwbacks thrown in it is a movie that really seems made for the fans. It's nice to see an actor have so much love for the character and his fans, even if his shtick here can feel a little stale at times. With Spade bringing more of what made Joe Dirt funny to so many and a show-stealing, hilarious Patrick Warburton, this is a sequel worth watching. So long as you were a fan of the original and/or can put up with some juvenile and dumb humor.
Quite a dumb movie. At many parts I wanted to switch it off and stop watching. Of course if you like fart jokes and stuff like that maybe you would like the movie too - or maybe it is meant more for teenagers or whatever. Even the story itself was a bit dumb and cliche. Still somewhat made me not switch it off and watch it all, so instead of 1, I give it 3 out of 10
Oh Joe, I was actually looking forward to this movie because I found the first one to be a nice surprise. But this movie actually retreads on ground Joe 1 already covered. We get the same jokes, similar situations and similar outcome. The only thing I liked about this movie was the fact they got a pretty decent amount of the original cast to reprise their roles for this movie, but not even that could help the overall film. If you loved or liked Joe Dirt 1 you're not going to find that same feeling here. Watching once should be enough.
