With songs about shoes and dogs, Lucky Stiff couldn’t be sillier, but Mr. Marsh and especially Ms. James make it an enjoyable curiosity for fans of musical theater.
Overall, the insubstantial Lucky Stiff feels like community theater with an extravagant budget.
Lucky Stiff shoots for "zany" and lands at "attention deficit disorder," but the songs aren't bad.
Another theater adaptation that remains stuck to the boards, despite the considerable talent and energy on tap..... equal parts diverting and strained, most likely to please the same niche audiences who have given the material a modest stage shelf life for the last quarter-century.
Bad movies are bad. Bad theater is worse. But bad movies resembling bad theater are perhaps worst of all.
Its irritatingly saccharine tone is such that it shuns grappling with certain characters' dubious and perverse behaviors.
