This is a guy's Star Wars movie that stars a chick in the lead. Trust me--if you owned all the toys when you were 11 years old, you are going to go bonkers over this thing. This is a good Star Wars. A refreshing look at the franchise. It patch a lot of the faults in the old trilogy. I like the more mature look at the characters as well.

I had low expectations after the cash-grab disappointment that was The Force Awakens, but Rogue One was a very pleasant surprise.

Jyn Erso was wonderful, a true hero. Rogue One proves you don’t need much lightsaber action at all to make a standout Star Wars movie. The most impressiveI had low expectations after the cash-grab disappointment that was The Force Awakens, but Rogue One was a very pleasant surprise.

The most impressive thing about this film was how real it made the war feel. We saw sacrifices being made over and over for the sake of the Rebellion. This is why people are calling this a “dark” movie. It’s too optimistic, the rebels too successful, for the movie to be called dark; it’s weighty. The successes are earned at incredible cost. Such is war.

One notable disappointment here was the musical score. It felt largely repurposed from John Williams’ previous work — and sometimes, that was enough, but it felt like a timid mimicry of greatness. Were there any new musical themes introduced? I don’t recall any. It’s fine, even necessary, to use the Imperial March when Vader shows up, but there needs to be more, too.

We met so many delightful characters — all human except for K-2, whose brand of humor was most welcome, and which stands in stark contrast to the dumb dad-jokes C-3PO made in the latter prequels. No, this was smarter humor, which felt (again) more “earned.”

Here’s hoping future Star Wars films will be more Rogue One and less The Force Awakens!… Expand

Star Wars is in a strange place. The prequel trilogy are objectively worse movies than the original trilogy. But they do feel cut from the same cloth. The Force Awakens and Rogue One are better movies than the prequels, but feel cut from a different cloth. I found Rogue One to be aStar Wars is in a strange place. The plot made sense and didn't step on the original films. I liked the diverse imperial bases. The film has minor flaws, such as some of the acting talent being wasted. Forest Whitaker and Mads Mikkelsen can do more/better! It seemed like K2SO got all the good comedic lines. Also a couple of times (minor spoiler) a character appears where the original actor has aged substantially or passed on. The approach taken to that seemed a little uncanny valley to me. Ultimately though the film lacks much of an underlying theme. Which makes it a flick, even though its a good one. Finally RIP Carrie Fisher.… Expand

"The Force Awakens" was the channel Abrams applied to flourish the torpid force in the warsies' heart after the futile prequels. Starting with this one, Disney took it upon itself to purvey an annual movie within litigating film release schedule. Kathleen Kennedy and formidable crew of the factory covet with making an empirical universe about the preternatural galaxy far, far away; and to achieve this, they have concluded to try its luck with Edwards' war experiment in order to elucidate whether it is beneficial to create a line of independent events out of the Skywalker family. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" opens by far a feasible wave of dissimilar films of a galactic anthology while focusing and securing its strongest point in the director's fervent declaration: war film which does not drink neither George Lucas' nor J. J. Abrams' lymph for manufacturing a deferential, nostalgic, cogitative, and sometimes dispiriting extension in Star Wars mythology.

Its narrative component emulates the scale clichés of the original trilogy: a princess, a robot, a misanthrope, a strife between the dark side and the light side and of course display of spaceships assailing each other. Conversely, this compact design takes risks as for inquiring into primitive and uncommon perspectives, which foster a fortification of a deeper concept around mythology. And although as a last resort is a war celluloid more than remarkable—in spite of it merely sketches certain characteristics and focuses its plausible references in "The Dirty Dozen" (1967) by Robert Aldrich—does not manage to be a corporeal Star Wars movie since it's constantly held on by fan service and generates a quite primary treatment to the development. A prime look to unfamiliar areas from a standpoint's as ordinary as opposed, a wit tinged of tribulation and grief and one of the most honorable final thirds in a blockbuster in recent times are the unforeseen top ambitions by the filmmaker.

It takes place before the events of "Episode IV," "Rogue One" came up from a shallow idea of visual effects supervisor and CCO at Industrial Light & Magic John Knoll, which consisted in clarifying the time- space around what was the itinerary of the Death Star plans until being in Princess Leia Organa's hands , route somewhat named in "A New Hope". Ordinary people clan gradually takes form, finding its cardinal mover into the force. Although the fabled team bounces from a planet to another for terminating its commission, we figured out exiguous details about the crew captained by Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) —who made me very proud;—likewise, most fans clamor for more background in Saw Gerrera's story, the leader of the Onderon rebels. Despite the fact that the depth was an authentic reverb, character designs and performances are what many fans were waiting for. Displaying a heterogeneous and multicultural acting cast, which delves into each contemporary civilization, the film takes advantage of the cultural range to generate a vast human-racial universe inside its world, in the same way, each performer gets its moment of glory before the decisive and evocative ending. Their performances made the audience proud, so much so that was ineluctable not yell in the credits of the motion picture.

More suitable for adults than infants, more suitable for warsies than mass audiences. If it were action and conflagration scenes, the near-perfect third act would lead the film to the sublime, sadly, its burning and high-octane last forty minutes aren't enough to keep afloat lack of enthusiasm and the multiplicity of the beginning and exposition, opportunities lacking in momentum and vigor that exclusively are notable for performances and special effects. In time record, Giacchino composed an entrancing, nostalgic and fortifying soundtrack, which is assembled with the dark tone of each frame, also it testifies him as the first author in breaking John Williams' musical canon. "Rogue One" is more a war product, in where its spectacular music, sparkling performances, and nearly excellent action sequences invade unexplored lands and nothing irreverent in Star Wars world, also, the film gives a message of hope and encourages all us, who this year lost a great woman: imposing Carrie Fisher. Rogue One is better off and more relative in being a 30-minute intro-setup movie for A New Hope and the rest of the original 3 Star Wars movies. But as a movie all its own, as the Star Wars Story it's meant to be, it does fall a tad short on what could've been a very interesting solo Star Wars tale. It's intentions are good, it's build-up is strong, but the movie lacks focus or coherence for the first hour or so. But once our characters begin to set out on the mission of their lives, the gears amp up and so does the emotion. Rogue One goes out like some beautifully tragic pre-movie to a video game, in the most epic fashion imaginable. Including an escape sequence involving an iconic character, that's made to shock your nerves. But outside of it's final lap, Rogue One doesn't really have that appeal or rewatchable quality to it you'd think it'd easily have. Only for its send-off experience, but the movie as a whole as a story, and as an experience is all about the ending and not so much about it's foundation.… Expand
