The extremely game presence of actors like Zoë Chao, Veep's Sam Richardson, and This Is Us's Justin Hartley (as the dimpled bohunk she left behind) help anchor the chaotic wisp of a plot that follows, as does Wilson's barrelling, blithely crass energy.
If Alex Hardcastle’s effortfully high-spirited Netflix feature isn’t exactly good, it’s still good enough to provide reasonable throwaway fun, thanks much less to the material than to a cast that elevates it when they can.

Senior Year is a just-OK movie, but it’s a very good Rebel Wilson movie, in that she has been funny in supporting roles, but this is the first time she has excelled as the name above the title.
Senior Year takes two high-concept premises—the going-back-to-high-school movie and the waking-up-from-a-coma movie—and slams them together in an intermittently amusing but mostly obvious comedy.
Painfully simplistic in its execution, which frequently undervalues its clever set-up, and featuring unlikeable, poorly drawn characters, the movie works overtime to make the audience actively dislike it.
Tonally, it’s all over the place, that aforementioned sap curdled together with Wilson’s trademark crudeness, an R-rated comedy that wants to be both sweet and salty, a balance it never manages to perfect.
While Senior Year has certain moments that are indeed funny, it’s not enough to overcome the film’s many flaws.
I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. It wasn't perfect. It could have delved deeper. But I was transported back to high school in the most beautiful way. This movie is not trying to win an Oscar, nor does it take itself too seriously. It's just pure fun. And if you didn't enjoy your high school experience, if you look closely, the final dance routine is for you.

In this movie, Stephanie Conway (portrayed by Rebel Wilson), a beloved high school senior aspiring to be prom queen, falls into a coma due to a scheme orchestrated by her nemesis. Two decades later, she emerges from her coma and resolves to complete her senior year.
Senior Year taps into 2000s nostalgia and benefits greatly from Rebel Wilson's comedic prowess. However, it falls short in depth. While the plot shows potential, it quickly feels underdeveloped. The stark contrast between young and older Stephanie is puzzling, as she ages physically but not mentally, seemingly played for laughs.
The numerous characters here don't elevate the story, and they're not always fully utilised. The ending is rushed, and leaves loose ends; the fate of some characters remains unknown, case in point Tiffany and Blaine.
Ultimately, Senior Year is a tropey and predictable flick but it also has its golden moments that help make it tolerable.
