Thurman’s scenes only get better when she’s paired with Jackson. The duo handles their dialogue like a walk in the park, and you can tell that The Kill Room tries to make the most of it.
While the killer with a heart of gold trope works to varying degrees, mostly because of Manganiello’s unvarnished presence, the thematic heft of The Kill Room is enough to make it an intriguing and entertaining early work.

Uma Thurman plays an art gallery owner who's struggling to pay the bills. In comes a baker (Samuel L. Jackson) with a plan to launder money thru fake paintings. All they need is an artist, which is where the hired killer comes in (Joe Manganiello). When his work becomes a sensation, it presents problems for the "laundry" business. The film's title could lead viewers to expect murder and suspense, but this is really a send-up of New York's art scene. Thurman borders on chewing the scenery with her hopped-up desperate snob, but she turns out to be the best thing about the movie. Jackson's typical irreverent, cussing character provides the only moments of levity, while Manganiello gets serious. Supporting roles from Jennifer Kim, Amy Keum and Debi Mazar add "character." Those looking for thrills from the kills will be let down, but this smart, sassy satire makes the art world look positively criminal.NOTE: In stunt casting, the snarky owner of a competing gallery is played by Maya Hawke, daughter of Thurman and Ethan Hawke.

Não tem como levar a sério um filme desse, diálogo, situações e atuações constrangedoras. Era preferível ter se entregado à comédia. Tenta dar um tom meio "Crônica de cotidiano", e Uma Thurman até tenta conferir dignidade, mas sua personagem não convence (incrivelmente ela sai do nada de uma curadora fracassada a uma expert), fora que a situação é esdrúxula (um artista fake ganhando fama no mundo da arte). Ao menos a direção de arte está bem interessante, e alguns personagens secundários funcionam, mas é só isso mesmo.

The final few scenes of The Kill Room stretch the satiric premise to the breaking point, but by then we’re content to go along with the ride and enjoy the dark humor and the fine work of the entire cast, led by Jackson and Thurman in twin knockout performances.
If screen comedies are poker games, then Paone, working from a script by Jonathan Jacobson, leaves a lot of money on the table, not properly playing the wonderful hand she’s dealt. But The Kill Room, which also needed a better title, has enough funny going on to recommend it if you don’t think of all it might have been.
Despite the lack of kinetic energy and well-developed characters, the movie offers a rather humorous take on the art world and its criminal underbelly with characters that are enjoyable to watch.
Nicol Paone’s flat direction and Jonathan Jacobson’s listless screenplay leave the cast painting by numbers.
While the supporting cast is replete with performers we like to see — Debi Mazar, Larry Pine, and Thurman’s daughter, Maya Hawke, as a feminist artist — the script, in the end, does little to support them.
Not quite as thrilling as I was expecting. Something went wrong with this film somewhere along the line.
