The unevenness of what surrounds the star couple is indicative of the script's inability to muster anything more than intermittent sophistication.
A plot like this is so hopeless that only acting can redeem it. Lopez pulls her share of the load, looking geuninely smitten by this guy and convincingly crushed when his secret is revealed. But McConaughey is not the right actor for this material.

La película por momentos es buena, pero en otros es detestable; sabes todo lo que va a pasar es predecible, lo que provoca que no te sorprendas cuando hay un giro de guion, todo esta planeado, y nada puede salirse de control, no arriesga en nada, tal como la premisa de la película.
Algo bueno es que de forma bastante superficial expone muchas de las creencias que tenemos sobre el amor, no solo el actual sino también sobre como era el "amor"; en épocas donde los matrimonios eran arreglados y se esperaba que el amor surgiera en ese entorno, el problema es que el mensaje final es mas bien el amor a primera vista, sin conocerse ni desarrollar un vinculo fuerte.
Lo que mas me molesto es que Jennifer López la protagonista basa toda su carrera en hacer lo que sea necesario para que las parejas se casen incluso engañar, y aun así tiene el cinismo de creerse con la moral de sermonear a otros, cuando ella no es integra con la concepción que dice creer del amor.
Al final los buenos argumentos que se presentan son opacados por el mismo guion.

Jennifer Lopez is stunning and perfect in every scene, Matthew McConaughey is a very pleasant presence (although not as charming as after the hair miracle that the actor will experience in a few years). The story is what it is, fake as a plastic flower, and yet it would have been watchable if there was not an imbarassing poor depiction of the Italian maybe-to-be fiancee Massimo: the goofy, insignificant, language-cliché speaking ("Mangia, mangia"), and ultimately boring young man cannot even start hoping to share the same room with JLo's character, let aside marring her, therefore this part of the story is far from being believable: it would have worked better if there were some real competition between him and McConaughey's character. 9 for JLo, 5 for the movie.

The preview—if that's truly what it is—has a beginning, a middle, and an end; a host of good lines; and so many goofy surprises that it's hard to believe that there's anything more to see in the picture itself. I mean … they wouldn't show you the entire movie in the coming attraction, would they?
The Wedding Planner achieves the dubious but perversely impressive feat, for its 90-minute duration, of neutering Jennifer Lopez.
Don't buy a ticket for this one, even if the theater is having a fire sale on Raisinets.
Director Shankman has diligently studied the forms and reproduced the moves of the screwball romances he so clearly loves, but he simply hasn't the chops to put together even a decent rip-off of those glittering jewels of the '30s and '40s, which depend on great writing, classy situation comedy and, above all, chemistry.
Frankly, it's excruciating to watch.
This is were Lopez's rom-com's stop now! you have the guy lead Matthew Mcconaughey, (great actor!) who tries to play his character very well; but he do good in this film if the script is in the way?
