Chris Hemsworth heads a scientific experiment in the titular correctional facility in Netflix's upcoming film Spiderhead, but one thing he may not have calculated for is connection. See a sneak peek at the film through its official trailer, below.

"Beautiful people get away with too much, and I say that having benefitted from myself from time to time," Hemsworth's character, Steve Abnesti, says in the trailer.

Based on George Saunders' short story Escape from Spiderhead, the movie is set in a futuristic world and follows Steve, who tests mind-altering drugs on prisoners in exchange for commuted sentences. Without bars, cells, or even uniforms, the prisoners are able to be themselves, which allows two of Steve's subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), to form a connection. However, while they are still undergoing the experiment and therefore being administered drugs, one has to wonder how much free will they have to make that connection, let alone continue down a path of redemption.

"In science, we have to explore the unknown," Steve says in the trailer. "It's new frontier stuff here. ... [The] time to worry about crossing lines was a lot of lines ago."

The trailer shows Jeff concerned about how much he is being experimented on, while Lizzy has a violent outburst. Things get explosive with fights and a car on fire, but Steve is convinced the work will save many lives.

"We're making the world a better place," he says. "What you want is redemption, and this is how you're going to find it."

Spiderhead is directed by Joseph Kosinski from a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Tommy Harper, Hemsworth, Oren Katzeff, Eric Newman, Reese, Jeremy Steckler, Geneva Wasserman, and Wernick serve as producers.

Spiderhead will stream on June 17.
