There’s a lot to like in All American: Homecoming for both fans of the original series and people entering this world for the first time. The tone is familiar and approachable, and the show is bolstered by solid performances. Most importantly, it’s a fun hang that fully buys into what college is all about.
“All American: Homecoming” is admirably big-hearted in crafting two protagonists whose struggles viewers will follow attentively, and in conjuring a campus whose squabbles and scandals feel human-scale.
All American: Homecoming has some generic elements that we hope get straightened out over time, but its compelling cast and some of the potential stories set up by the first episode have us intrigued.
Homecoming‘s sprawling cast allows it to approach the college experience from all angles, some inevitably more compelling than others. The most prominent and most emotionally resonant arc in the first four hourlong episodes sent to critics concerns Simone’s struggles to adjust.
