The result is an inspired mix of Beetlejuice and The Money Pit, with a spooky, goofy energy that isn’t remotely like anything else on broadcast TV...The chorus of ghosts is a comedic masterstroke.
I’ve greatly enjoyed both the UK and US versions. It’s fun, goofy with a diverse group of characters. All the ghosts are so different and somehow they have great chemistry.
Ghosts is one of my top 5 favorite new shows of 2021. The writing was outstanding, very hilarious and really love the witty on the nose jokes. The performances are phenomenal especially from Rose McIver, Brandon Scott Jones, Rebecca Wisocky, Danielle Pinnock, Matt Walsh, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Devan Chandler Long, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Roman Zaragoza, John Hartman, Betsy Sodaro, Arthur Holden, Rachael Harris, Sheila Carrasco, Cody Crain, Crystle Lightning, Caroline Aaron, Stuart Fink, and Cat Lemieux. The music is great especially the opening theme. An A+ first season, hoping for many more.
For now, though, Ghosts -- which premieres with back-to-back episodes -- milks enough laughs from the sharpness of its writing and sheer goofiness to warrant a look. Whether that translates into a long-term stay remains to be seen, but unlike a lot of new sitcoms, at least this one doesn't look dead on arrival.
Ghosts US (BBC Three/iPlayer) is a decent showcase for its cast and it can’t kill the charm of the original, but what was delightful in the original show is now just pleasant and what was unique is generic.
Ghosts is more cute than funny. Though it must be given credit (if that's the right word) for breaking the broadcast-TV barrier on a particular euphemism for fellatio, which the ghosts use frequently without any awareness of its modern American significance. Now, on to the rusty trombone.
British transplant. We get it that some may have liked the British version, but so too are those who still cling to the British version of the Office. True, it can be mindless, but mindless in a harmless, comedic manner. Perhaps not as “smart” as some comedies (pick your show), but Ghosts is certainly worth a view if you want something light, amusing, and a show with about a half dozen well-crafted lines each episode.
It's good. I do watch it and hope for more shows, but there was absolutely no reason to remake the BBC version though. Watch that one too if you can. Since I like the BBC version, I admit that it's nice to have some American versions to fill in while I'm waiting for it to come back.
Another mindless CBS comedy.
This could have been a decent show except that it is too shallow and banal.
Stereotypes abound which makes this show less than smart, less than interesting, and easy to tune out.
When will Hollywood learn that smart writing is the key to the success of the classic sitcoms of the past. Unfortunately they keep dishing out this drivel.
This show is an abomination. Yet another doomed American remake of a British show that didn’t need to be made. I should say that I loved Rose McIver in iZombie, but if the showrunners thought they were capturing what made the original Ghosts special they have failed spectacularly. Please just watch the original BBC Ghosts, there are already three seasons and it’s still airing.
