The proliferation of characters can be disorienting and super-Bibb is criminally underused, but “Jupiter’s Legacy” works for the most part if your idea of entertainment leans that way. Glittering costumes, eyes that shoot laser beams, explosions and destruction galore. That’s entertainment circa 2021.
It’s all engaging enough, but a certain airlessness constrains the entertainment value. ... The problem is that it comes perilously close to taking itself too seriously. Any opportunity for fun is shut down by perpetually morose teens, action set-pieces we have seen many times before and clunky speeches about the state of the world.
I LOVED it. The 1929 storyline is far superior than the comic storylines. I'm also glad they toned down the woke aspect. Critics are naturally annoyed by that. In my opinion, this story, lore, universe and characters are far better than The Boys. GREAT show. Thank you, Mark Millar!
Pretty great, looks like a lot of critic reviews are focused on the lack of forced diversity and PC anger, not to mention preaching of nonsensical values to drag this show down but its very good and if youre an actual human and not some media puppet you should definately enjoy this show, about time this year finally has a show you can actual enjoy as a form of escapism not preachy out of touch nonsense
For a series about superheroes, Jupiter's Legacy moves in what feels like slow motion. The result is a Netflix drama that's impressive in its scope -- adding to the growing roster of dark comic-book tales -- but frustrating in its sluggish pacing, oscillating between twin timelines over the course of its eight initial episodes.
This series might have felt revolutionary nearly a decade ago (when the comic series was originally published), but today it just treads on tired and well-worn territory.
Ultimately, it's not much of anything beyond a slowly unreeling plot played out by thinly realized characters sometimes accompanied by some decently realized special effects.
While it’s a valiant try at starting a new superhero franchise, Jupiter’s Legacy can’t wrangle its sprawling mythology well enough to make a coherent and cohesive first episode.
It is a stultifying mess of a show on pretty much every level. It’s meant to be viewed with utmost seriousness, yet it feels like a parody where someone forgot to insert the jokes.
Excellent series; provided you can get past the poor makeup and (in some scenes) costumes. Refreshing take on the genre, excellent peformances from almost all the core cast and an intruiging premise. Honestly; a big surprise at how enjoyable it was. I suspect most of the 'woke' critics disliked it as it didn't pander much (if at all) to their nonsense and had fairly grounded themes of duty, responsibility, sacrifice and 'passing the torch'. Quality-wise, this is up there with 'The Boys' in some regards, and certaintly as good as the 'early' Marvel series e.g. Jessica Jones 1.
This wasn't amazing, but I did enjoy watching it. There was no in-your-face activist message that's in most things lately. It was a bit of a slow burn but not annoyingly so
Its pretty obvious this was Netflix's attempt to recreate marvel and dc's superhero tv shows success after losing the marvel shows. However, it falls pretty flat in terms of visuals and storytelling. I found the best part of the series to be the origins story which shows how the original superheroes gained their powers but the decision to add in the dysfunctional modern families created pacing inconsistencies and a convoluted plot which became hard to follow, while you tried to piece together the past and the present. Had they been separate stories and timelines or even seasons, it would have been more fleshed out and better executed. After the first 3 episodes, it became a drag to watch till episode 7 when things began to escalate. The costumes also look like they were made from cheap materials instead of a more realistic look like how Superman's suit is darker. Think of it as Captain America's suit in Avengers 1, which was colorful and frankly, out of place and Captain America's suit in Civil War, which looked a lot better. The costumes from Jupiter's Legacy look like CA's suit in Avengers 1 and I think they would look better if they upgraded their suits for the next season. Overall, Jupiter's Legacy is ok. Theres not a lot of good or bad but I would say watch it if theres really nothing else or you're a fan of the comics.
Maybe we are overwhelmed with the super-heroes' films & series (such as Marvel & DC's franchises) and we have big expectations with new similar projects. Jupiter's Legacy disappoints with the timeline of the show, which is really messy. The adaptation is truly none-sense. The dilemma of the old heroes and the millennial heroes, the makeup and costumes really don't live up to the expectations. Acting, could be better.
