One Big Happy is light and forgettable.

I am from South Africa and I only recently heard of "One Big Happy" when Ellen DeGeneres spoke about it and played a small clip on her show. After watching the first episode I was hooked. I absolutely loved it. I watched all 6 episodes that were aired, in one go, and I am very sad to hear that the show has been cancelled. I don't think there was one moment where I was bored. I thought it was super funny and I always had a smile on my face while watching. I loved every moment, the story line ,the humour, the cast, the jokes, all of it.

Absolutely love this show. It's so funny and it gets funnier every episode. So glad they picked the actors/actresses they did, they're all wonderful!

Feldman and her writers are so obsessed with making One Big Happy socially righteous--Lizzy announces her gayness with the frequency of an undercover straight person--that they forgot to give it any heart.
If there’s a milestone achieved by One Big Happy, it’s that we’ve reached the point where shows spotlighting gay characters, relationships, and issues can finally be as lazy, occasionally offensive, and unfunny as shows about straight people have been for decades now.
One Big Happy is one of those calculated illusions--a series that tries to appear forward-thinking and edgy by tackling the evolving definition of family and parenting, only to filter those elements through a musty sitcom template that predates “Ellen” coming out of the closet.
Obvious, dumb and mostly unfunny, One Big Happy is an embarrassment for all involved.
There’s nothing funny about One Big Happy, the performances are wooden and irritating, the setup is completely phony, and that’s about all the energy I have to expend on what is just one big pile of something, but it definitely isn’t Happy.
I love this show! It is both funny and sweet with relatable characters I care about, even after only two episodes. The chemistry among the characters works with apparent real affection. Some have complained about the laugh track but I didn't even notice it. Even with an acerbic sister character, the overall tone of the show is one of clear affection among the characters. The acting is good. The writing is good. The timing and pace are good. The show is very good. I laughed, a lot!

Unfortunately this show was horribly cast. The lead characters are caricatures of a lesbian, straight male, and the other woman. They all just miss the mark. So no matter how many jokes you put in their mouths, it just won't quite make it to "funny". In fact, the only Funny person on the show is the sister who's tucked away somewhere with not enough scenes or lines. The sister character "should" have been cast as the lesbian btw. It's too bad too, a decent concept, but a bland cast and no real edge or tension to the show. (See Modern Family - edge, plus tension, plus loving relationships equals laughs).
