Great show, great balance of action and character development. One of the first that I go to when I have time to watch TV. I like the mix of characters and how they relate with each other and in the situations of each episode. Definitely worth the watch regardless of what others have said.
Great show. On the matter of the critics everybody does about the lack of credibility and the factual errors that, I agree, are pretty frequent, I just would like to remember that it is fiction. I don't know if you're into science, my field is proteinomics. Even in colossal movies we all love there are many mistakes. I'm not talking of science fiction movies, but simply of action movies. Or take Clint Eastswood's Million Dollar Baby. Five (I counted six) errors in the story of the incident of the boxer. Those movies have a budget so higher than one of this show's episode that I simply wonder why you think to do such a discovery when you evidence an clear mistake. The point is - in my opinion - that shows like these are very good for teenagers wanting to do a career in science, with mistakes they will be prone to study again what's wrong with what they just saw. Just read Wittgenstein about the latter concept. Personally, it's very entertaining, thanks for reading.
Um bom equilíbrio entre a ação e o desenvolvimento das personagens. Eu gosto da mistura dos personagens e de como eles se relacionam entre si no meio das situações de cada episódio, porém, 80% das falas deles correspondem a "blá blá blá" para mim.
There's something about this show. Performances are not great, plots are silly , all the scientific stuff is **** FX are from the 90s or the 80s... and I don't mind. I think is because is honest and it doesn't pretend to be what is not and that, with all those pretentious TV shows out there, is refreshing.
I'll spare you the well-covered gripes about how this show gets so many factual things wrong when its supposed to be about geniuses. Instead, I'll talk about how every episode the writers pick a theme and drill it into your head over and over and over with the subtlety of a carjacking. Almost 2 seasons in, the behaviorist Toby is still laughably unaware of his own behavior, and Sylvester will still cringe at the mere thought of risk, in spite of the fact he's been in a dozen or so more life-or-death situations than the average person. 2 points were given for the occasionally fun action sequences and because Katherine McPhee is so delightful.
I watched a couple of episodes of the first season, but the silliness destroyed too many of my brain cells.
Thus, I was incapable of writing a review for season 1 of "Scorpion".
One year later, after recovering, I gave it another try this second season.
Well, what didn't change this season:
It's still about a couple of geniuses confronted with dangerous situations and tricky problems supervised by Robert Patrick as an FBI-agent. Uhm, plus Katharine McPhee playing Paige, a waitress, who isn't a genius, but her little son is, but he doesn't contribute anything to the plot. Go figure...
I thought that, by season 2, I would know why McPhee is on this show, but I still don't get it.
And again, as in season 1, we have to witness the geniuses doing all kinds of silly stunts, because being a
genius and solving difficult problems no other man could, is not cool enough for TV.
Do you recall season one, where they chased down a plane on the runway with a sportscar at full speed trying to connect a laptop computer to the plane with a USB(?)-cable. Didn't know planes have USB-ports...
Wait, not all of them do stunts. One of the lead characters is the "super-genius" ("Walter").
He's a genius, he's good looking and he gets to smooch Katharine McPhee. Of course, he's the main stunt guy!
Maybe that's why Katharine McPhee is on this show: The super-genius gets to smooch without
the FBI having to bring in outside personnel. Now I get it!
I only watched the first episode with the satellite that gets knocked out of orbit and is on its way to crash somewhere and they try to reprogram that satellite from the ground to change its course.
As you would expect, this doesn't work and all of a sudden, before you can say "That satellite code doesn't look like BASIC", you see super-genius and Katharine McPhee (why, again, her, the waitress?) more than 10.000 feet up in the sky on a balloon trying to get in close range to contact the satellite using a laptop computer, something you certainly would expect to work.
Do satellites have wifi nowadays? At least it's an improvement over that connecting-laptop-computer-with -plane-using-USB-cable stunt.
The sheer silliness of it could knock your socks off right there, but brace yourselves, there's more:
At the same time they're trying to contact the satellite, their balloon is holding a position that crosses path with a rocket launched from the ground to destroy the satellite.
What do super-genius and Waitress McPhee do? Smooch so hard that the friction of their lips create the necessary hot air to move the balloon out of the rocket's path. Ok, I made that up, but it's not that different from what actually happens.
At that point, your brain will command you to say "Oh my god, that's so ludicrous".
But your speech-cortex, instead, will take a shortcut directly to: AAAAYYYYYAAAAAYYYYAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!".
Yep, it's **** maybe not? Maybe it's just trash-y?
Or pick any adjective, but it has to start with "trash", ****.. "trashlactic" or
"trashotronic" or ...Well, you get it, right?
In case you're interested, I got unconscious before the credits rolled and woke up in a hospital inside an oxygen tent. I gave everything, just to give you some info about the show.
I wonder though, how you can top that satellite-ballon-rocket stunt. It'll be hard to do.
But this time, you go and find out, if you dare!
This show is a total waste of airtime. I actually am an above average IQ engineer who has worked on datacom, telecomm, computer, aircraft, satellite, RF, and nuclear systems. I can tell you that just about everything they do is complete nonsense!! One would think they would hire a real engineer, or scientist to advise them on there issues to keep the scripts somewhere inside the realm of realism, but they just pull BS out of the air. Add to that the continual fumbling, antisocial, "geek" behavior, making them seem like total fools, and horrible acting. Then throw in the imbecilic plot lines, to make for a show that only a child could enjoy!
