There are a few arcs on The Family that could use a little work. ... Still, those little missteps hardly detract from the thrills and chills of The Family.
Tonally it’s a high-wire act, one that will be impressive should The Family manage to pull it off, but runs a real risk of trivializing an extremely sensitive subject.
I loved this show, i was very disappointed it was canceled, cast was phenomenal, was very well written, a lot of potential, very good plot for and up to date drama, characters were very real and seem to mesh very well, i hope they bring it back
The series is about the return of the mayor's son, who was presumed dead after disappearing over a 10 years earlier. The series stars Joan Allen as Claire Warren, the ambitious and manipulative mayor of the fictional city Red Pines and matriarch of the Warren family, who announces her candidacy for governor when her son Adam returns after having been kidnapped 10 years prior.
ABC's The Family is one of the best series I have watched in a long, long time. I was always wondering what happens next every episode.. until episode 12. The cliffhanger episode.. (Please continue season 2!)
The episodes were not predictable which is also rare nowadays. As a viewer you were always thinking about if Adam is going to come back or is he really dead? The viewer gets the answer not until the last episode of season one which is good.
For those who find parts of the storyline too unrealistic: It is "just" a TV show. You can find unrealistic elements in every movie, every series. Come on.
Nevertheless, the actors do a great job, as well as the story writers. Really hope for a continuation.
While we're waiting to be further mystified, there's plenty to see, including McCarthy's scene-stealing performance as a character who might be as misunderstood as Boo Radley, or might truly be the bogeyman of our worst nightmares.
The series isn’t necessarily equipped to deal with the true emotional ramifications of its story of kidnap as well as, say, Starz’s harrowing miniseries The Missing, but it doesn’t just gloss over them, either.
Even the best performers need time to pause and room to spread out. For The Family to become the deep and nuanced character drama it clearly wants to be, everyone needs to take a breath, perhaps join a support group, and slow the heck down.
The Family is a shallow treatment of material that deserves more maturity, more empathy, more savvy about American culture. It shows capacity for interesting ideas but has only meager, cliché imagination for them.
Absolutely love this show, best ive seen on ABC in a long time. The story is well done and acting even better. There are more twists and turns than i can count! This show truly had me on edge every week!
This show is excellent. It is well-written, well-acted, and definitely not predictable.
Andrew McCarthy is fantastic. You will not be disappointed with The Family.
I've been binge-watching the first 4 shows. It reminds me of The Killing. Everything is dark and gray. It is interesting and I probably will continue watching the remainder episodes. But, I don't see where it could possibly go from here. The acting is pretty good.
I gave it a 2 because I'm watching even though -
this is one terribly conceived drama.
The holes are bigger than any other show I've seen in years.
i.e. Hank still lives across the street.
The family is mad at him? Seriously. They fixed evidence and they're mad at him?
The creator and writers seem to lazy to close the holes and every other plot point
is predictable. And the characters have little dimension.
Now the reporter who's doing both kids (because the universe they all live in is
withing 2 miles) -- she's found the mother.
I'm just hanging in till Fargo comes back.
