What you will certainly see is how finely tuned both the marital observations and comic timing are.... This summer's must-see comedy smash.
It gets better with each episode--and it’s not as though Wednesday night’s premiere isn’t very funny.
The Jim Gaffigan Show showcases its star at his exasperated best, putting his now well-honed spin on the befuddled dad genre from which many a sitcom has supped.
Lots of amusing cameos add to the fun.... Mr. Gaffigan may not be the greatest actor, but he has a genial charm, which is the first prerequisite to making a show like this work.
The show is at its slightest when it slides into the “dumb daddy” territory previously mined by “According to Jim” and myriad other sitcoms. But at its best, The Jim Gaffigan Show manages to be cleverer despite a familiar conceit.
Onstage, Gaffigan can be winning as a regular guy. But The Jim Gaffigan Show is merely ordinary.
Gaffigan’s show was originally developed for CBS, and it has the safe, middle-of-the-road quality of most CBS sitcoms, which makes it just right for TV Land’s mild reinvention.
