This is easily the best of the spinoffs to date, because of our intense connection to these bold characters and their desire for each other. [11 - 31 Mar 2024, p.5]
While “The Ones Who Live” isn’t exactly review proof, if you’ve been pining away for these two, nothing anyone says will stop you from sucking the marrow out of this carcass. The less emotionally invested but curious, though, may also be pleased to see what these two look like now.

Not only is this the best spin-off we have got from The Walking Dead Universe but it has also been some of the best episodes we have gotten from The Walking Dead period in the past 5 years.

"The Ones Who Live" is just good enough to keep its universe fresh ... for now.
The story takes a while to wind up, and by the time it does, we’re already more than halfway through the show. It’s hard to imagine how this series will wrap up in a way that feels as epic as its action-packed opening. That said, by Episode Four, we’re really cooking again, as stars and executive producers Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira rediscover the fire that made their characters—and the “Richonne” ship—so compelling.
Originally announced as movies that would feature Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” became a series instead, and as conceived and constructed, the least impressive of the zombie drama’s recent spinoffs. While Lincoln’s involvement as the original star looks like a coup, that’s poor compensation for questionable decisions regarding how to showcase him.
Whenever The Ones Who Live seems to be finally getting to the heart of this new chapter of an expansive story, the world comes rushing back in. There could be something poetic about this if handled more deftly, but the show chooses to make explosive sacrifices to spectacle without any indication of what will play out.
“The Ones Who Live” suffers from its position in the bloated universe these characters find themselves in, and despite the beautiful work from its two main actors, it never quite reaches its full potential. The stakes don’t truly feel high enough.
This show was so cinematic and riveting! The acting was superb and Andrew Lincoln deserves all the awards! Very well written.

Best of the Walking Dead in years. So good to see Rick back in action and the ending. Unbelievable!!! Can't wait to see how the rest of this story plays out.

How disappointing. Rick Grimes was always the heat of TWD, and I quickly lost interest when he left. This doesn't feel like the character - more a collection of ticks and acting gimmicks. It's the acting that lets this down most of all (the writing is also weak - just a scenario really). Method acting **** on a television schedule - give some thought to your performance and turn up ready!

Andrew Lincoln is always a pleasure to watch. But he can only do so much with tired, predictable writing. The same moral predicaments have been done so many times, but they're universal --- I find it hard to believe they can't be made fresh. The problem with this show is the writing. Plain and simple, it's bad, boring and predictable. And pushing "The Walking Dead Universe." Come on, we understand your IP ambitions, but keep it to yourself. The world has had enough of the MCU. Your IP ambitions are your business. Just give us good stories. This isn't one. Hire some fresh and dangerous writers.
