I have mentioned this before, and I will keep mentioning it, Sonic Forces are good, you people are just haters. Legitimately I had a great time with Sonic Forces, and enjoyed it greatly because it was a short, over dramatized game. Sonic just works better with serious stories because he never changes his upbeat attitude.
The usual complaint I see people talk about is how short the levels are, and honestly...what are you expecting? Sonic levels shouldn't be long endeavors of having to survive a bunch of stuff. I get that these levels were shorter than most, but we're talking very minimal compared to the likes of, say, Sonic Unleashed, that decided to make Sonic's last level be roughly 45mins. to beat. Sonic goes fast, and with the boost mechanic he goes even faster to the point that a lot of these levels end up being a blink of the eye if you know them well enough. Perhaps the best levels in Forces though, are the one's involving the avatar. Yes, the avatar is kinda goofy, and very much feeds into the Sonic fanbase, but the actual design philosophy is great and works great. Being able to use different wisp abilities off handed with a gauge that limits the amount that you can use it without having to collect it? Yes. This is what Sonic colors should have done with the wisp system, and it helps make the levels more interesting with branching pathways depending on certain wisps you have. Add this together with the Sonic and Avatar levels being a double boost of fun, ya, it makes for some other interesting level design we just don't see in Sonic.
Course, not all of the game complements itself as well, and truly I understand people's hang ups with the classic Sonic levels because honestly they are a bit **** to actually play, and a lot of that has to do with how un-intuitive the controls for classic are. When you have a strict comparison of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, it's easy to see why the drop dash feels better in one and not the other. Mania simply gives you more room and feels less constrictive compared to Force's classic design. Then when you add together the actual timing into the mix, the fact that Mania is far looser and smoother goes a longer way to impress players. On top of that, Classic's levels just aren't very good. I don't know what it is that makes Sonic Team fumble on 2D design as much as they do, but as mentioned before the levels are simply do restrictive and don't offer much in terms of branching paths or smooth flow unless you follow a very strict way of running said level. This isn't really to say that Classic levels are bad as they are hard to adjust to and jarring to play compared to far looser and better designed levels of 3D Sonic and the Avatar.
Mostly though, Forces level design works far better on replay than it does as a one time thing. If you only played through it once, I can see why you think the levels feel disjointed, or you'd be upset at the story, but really it's just what you make of it. I don't agree with all the story beats as it seems like a lot of it was rewritten to explain certain things away, and a lot of the characters introduced are useless, but the overall heart of what I wanted is there, serious moments with Sonic saying something as he blows through enemies. I think if we had less Classic Sonic levels to deal with, and more avatar and Sonic levels, this game would be celebrated differently. Sadly that wasn't the case, and while I understand why most of you would ride it off as just another bad Sonic game at the sight of the first minor inconvenience. If given the time, Forces can show you so pretty neat things, as the game only gets better with replay.

No está mal el juego, solo que es demasiado automatizado, y el diseño de nivel es un tanto pobre en comparación a otros juegos de Sonic, pero bueno ¡Aprecio bastante la creación de avatares!

So painfully boring. The levels are basically 20 second straight lines where you do basically nothing but hold boost. The story is a cool concept but has really poor execution.

Wow, this game ****. The only good thing I can say about it is that you can make your own character. That's all. The controls, the story and the stages are all bad and S.O.S. missions shouldn't even exist. The Wisp weapons don't fit the game at all, but even worse is that for some red star rings you need to use different ones- forcing you to replay a level several times if you want all of them. The new villain, Infinite is also terrible, like Eggman can achieve more on his own. This game is a huge downgrade after Sonic mania. Constantly annoying and not so polished- these are not 2017 standards. It's best to avoid it, glad I didn't pay a single dollar thanks to Ps plus.
