I have played over 2000 hours of this game -- modded and unmodded. I just cannot get enough, and it never grows stale. That said, the AI is a bit weak, and head shots occur far too often.
The AI issue is "balanced" by the game throwing tons of mechs at you. To counter head shots, get Cockpit Mods as soon as you can.
I come to this from the original table top. So I like that it pays homage to that, while still keeping the game-play fresh. I tend to play the game 100% vanilla and un-modded. I find it more challenging that way.
There is a very active mod community. So if the game isn't to your tastes as is, you an tweak it until it is.
The stars of the game are the mechs and the ability to customize them. Since launch a lot of the slow downs in the game have been corrected and the time between turns move faster. Overall, a great experience for fans of turn based strategy games.
There's a lot to like in HBS's Mecha manager, but the uneven presentation, poor explanation, heavy use of RNG in combat, and underwhelming basic structure shove Battletech a bit too far into "hardcore franchise/genre fans only" territory.
overall it's a good turn-based strategy game.
pros:
+ more than 30 h playtime
+ innovative gameplay and combat mechanisms.
cons:
-long loading between gameplay.
-repetitive side missions.
This game is a repetitive slog, every mission is gain money to fund next mission and unlock new gear to literally do the same thing over again so you do not go bankrupt..
Yes its technically Battletech but with literally no soul and a huge hardcore grind.. A Mech gets destroyed weeks in repair bays, Mechwarriors (driver) get injured weeks in hospital, It just **** the fun out of the game, the missions are literally all the same and the difficulty is all over the place.
The story is atypical and forgettable and so hidden inside the grind by the time you reach a story mission you've lost the will to care.
Nothing like Mech Commander Gold which was an amazing game right through.
SummaryAssume command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war.
