I love this game, and yes I loved the original too.
It can be played as you see fit, whether you like to set up group firing lines and progress slowly to the objective or go hell for leather with your flamer and beat the speed run challenges is entirely up to you and your group.
Unfortunately as with all MP games you will get people who don't care and just want to ruin the game, but there are plenty of servers and there is the handy vote kick option.
As long as you connect to servers with a good ping you will have no connection issues. A lot of people complaining about these issues are only connecting to public games rather than dedicated servers. Often "crashes" are in fact the host leaving.
Bots can be a bit of a pain, however there are fixes to make them "smarter" but really you either want to team up in MP, or go for it solo. Any player worth his salt should be able to complete Landing Bay on Hard by themselves ;D
With easily 4 times the content (including campaigns, weapons and game modes) of its predecessor, ASRD is a huge success in revamping AS. Steam workshop has been added for ASRD making it even easier to add extra content than ever before, no more searching for mods then replacing steamaps files
The graphics still look fresh. Sure, they aren't top end, but neither is my PC, however my computer runs smooth, the game runs smooth, and it looks ALOT better than a lot of games around.
All of this and I hadn't even mentioned this game is free. What more can you ask for? 10/10
.
This game is amazing! For a start the game is free, you can download it on steam and play it, and see for yourself what the game is like, very easily. Do not miss out - give it a go, you will not regret it!
It is coop tactical squad shooter type of game. It is a modification of the original alien swarm that was released on steam in 2010. Reactive Drop has added support for 8 players, with is tons of fun, they have also added a bunch of new difficulty modes and challenge settings, and a host of new maps / campaigns. Also steam workshop is nicely integrated / supported.
If you liked Alien Swarm, you will love Reactive Drop, since it is Alien Swarm with some added features and content you can choose to enjoy.
As a coop online game its gameplay is very addictive, you can host games easily just a couple of clicks - create game - you are running a game anyone can join - or just your friends if you want. If you have an old computer or extreme low bandwidth internet connection it maybe laggy for 8 players. There are plenty of dedicated servers with appropriate bandwidth that will give you a smooth 8 player online game though. Most people will likely already have computers and internet connections that can host for 8 players fine via the game.
Like any game where anyone can easily host a game for a more than a few players - and there are server side hordes of enemies - not every host in the game list will be low latency all the time...
7/10 - Good game
(after 63h of playing)
Good, free game, great for co-op. Satisfying combat and lots of guns.
"Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop" is a more extensive version of the game "Alien Swarm"
1 – GENERAL
Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop is a free to play, top-down shooter. In this game we have a team and we have to control them and kill the alien hordes to reach the end of each level.
Sound effects and voice acting are good enough. The graphics are also more than enough to have a very good free to play game. The game has a story, but I admit that I have not pay much attention to it, so I assume it's there to try to give some substance to gameplay, or I would have noticed it better.
2 – GAMEPLAY
You can choose from 4 different classes, each one of those kinda unique. Each one with 2 weapons. You aim and shoot with the mouse, and sometimes you lost track of where you are aiming, but that is a minor issue. I've not found any problems with gameplay.
You can play solo or online with a group of other players. Playing solo is quite good. It's easy to command the other team members, and they are good enough not to stand in your way.
Playing with other people is very fun and way better to work as a group. There's ingame voice so you can talk with other people and that makes things even easier.
There's some different missions, each one of those can give you around 1 hour of gameplay, and you can repeat them a lot of times without getting tired, so I have to say that the length of the game and it's replay value are quite good.
You can add mods to the game, and that makes it even more interesting.
3– CONCLUSION
There's nothing in this game that clearly shines. There's also nothing that really disappoints. What intrigues me the most is that there's nothing to buy here, and for a completely free game I have to say that it is a quite good one, and you will have a lot of fun before you get tired of it, so just try it.
This game is not worth the play the multiplayer does not work you lag and nearly disconnect from servers even if the players all have the best internet you will still lag and be killed by invisible enemies or pushed out of bounds. Also most of their reviews on steam are positive cause they most likely paid people to talk great about their game or found die hard fans of the original alien swarm to rate this one and most likely still paid them off that or they are most likely workers at the company (mind you this is a company with one game under their belt this being that game, in short dont believe the glowing reveiws on steam most are likely to be faked or paid off)
