The option to use realistic damage will reward all that time spent in the single-player game nailing head shots too. Those of you with a Multitap will have great fun here. [PSW]
The fact is, Cold Winter repeatedly enables the player to do things you just wouldn't expect to be able to do. Big guns even break crates more easily than small guns; such is the developer's level of consideration.

Though the graphics and controls aren't perfect, it is one of the best FPS games for the PS2. The physics and the AI were revolutionary! Overall rating: 8.6.

It's a good game that's like a sort of mix between call of duty and half life. It's controls are relatively easy to use. The ai is a bit #+>þ with an imbalance between as harmless as a fly and as strong as a dragon. Its has puzzle bits and secrets that are worth it overall I enjoy this hidden arcady gem.

The controls are a bit sluggish when it comes to targeting and the game’s load times are typical. The game is also a bit linear and the puzzles are not particularly detailed.
I think the largest problem Cold Winter has is that it's on the wrong system. If, for some freakish reason, you only own a PS2 and you're a big FPS fan, this is one of the better games that's available on the system. It can genuinely be fun if you're willing to forgive its various flaws.

The game’s a breeze, which might appeal to novice gamers and people for whom achievement is more highly-valued than challenge, but doesn't do it for those better-versed in the art of fragging.
Honestly this is a must play game if you still enjoy the ps2. This game by far is a hidden gem and to be honest it seems above ps2 quality. It has a decent story with reasonable chapter progression and the gameplay is very decent. I really liked the feel of each weapon and how they uniquely handled. Some reviews say it he ai is bad and some say they are awesome. I weigh in that for ps2 they are far above average. I decided to use a sniper rifle as much as possible and the ai surprised me twice, once by pinning me in a corner with a smoke bomb followed by torching me with a flamethrower and secondly by running past a tent I was hiding in but then eventually finding me. It seemed very realistic with perfect ai detection. For anyone who has played the F.E.A.R series I'd say this ai is comparable for this game relative to the games generation. I can't really find much fault to this game apart from it being older generation.

If it had come out for PC, it would be wonderful to play this on the keyboard since on PS2 the only problem with this game is the sensitivity. Very violent game with a well applied rag doll physics!

A secret jem of the ps2 fps games.
A good story and a nice shooting make this game so advanced (for the times). The bad luck of this game was to come out at the end of the console 's life but, if you're looking for some cool ps2 games to try, I recommend this one.

Cold winter is a fine first person shooter. The way that you can find items dotted around the levels and then combining them to make objects like lock picks and time bombs is interesting. Great CGI cut scenes that move the story along and the fact that enemies can have their arms and legs blown off, leaving nothing but a lifeless torso is nothing short of awesome. Intel pieces dotted around the level add replay value. Great weapons, game play and sound design make Cold Winter an underrated gem.

This game does have a satisfying gun action and tons of blood. The voice acting is fairly good. The graphics seem to be good at first, but there is a sort of motion blur going on. The stick controls and movement are a bit sluggish. The graphics are better than most games on the PS2, but its pretty dark and moody in a depressing way. The game plays like a Goldeneye a little bit. Enemies are generic. There is satisfying shooting action and level exploration for FPS fans, but games like Black, James Bond games, Time Splitters, and maybe Call of Duty are more fun. I did like the characters and cutscenes. Playing through the first couple levels wasn't inspiring and it mostly reminded me of other games. I would have given this a 7 if the enemy audio wasn't so repetitive. Its just an OK FPS game. If you are a huge fan of the genre that needs every FPS game, then I'd say try it. There are some areas where this is a superior game but I don't think its a must play for everyone.
