After the first two games in the series, it was clear that Danganronpa was worth checking out if you had the slightest interest in visual novels or adventure games. By branching out to a whole new genre, developer Spike Chunsoft is showing that it's a franchise that's just worth checking out, period.
Very nice 3D visuals
Some scenes feel very cinematic
Has lots of different environments
Puzzles not too hard nor too easy
Great English Dubs Pre-Installed
Original Japanese Dialogue in PSN Store
Can't change outfits of main characters
This is a title not to miss out on if you have a Vita it's dark, cute, and funny. It's based on the Daganropa series so obviously it will has a great story, you can swap between the two main characters as a shooter or melee attacker. It's like a hybrid 3D action first person shooter visual novel in a way. Has puzzles in my opinion as an action rpg player I like them intermediate level not too easy and not too hard that you get a headache and get stuck not being able to progress through the game. Ultra Despair Girls gets it just right. I bought it at a full price after watching Youtube videos and it was totally worth it. Also, if you enjoyed the game recommend it to other players so we can support the production of Daganropa: Ultra Despair Girls 2!
The achievement list is not that good
The puzzle rooms tend to be a bit too easy
We now have to wait for Danganronpa 3 to see anymore of this incredible story :(
As long as you’re aware of the middling shooter gameplay which takes up about half the experience, you’ll still be able to enjoy the outrageous, hilarious, depressing and ultimately impressive writing of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls.
Once again the Danganronpa games have their highs in the narrative. Everything else is not great, starting with the pacing and continuing with the gameplay mechanics implemented within the 3rd person sections.
A massive amount of dialogue often saps the pace of an otherwise eerily tense third-person adventure, but other than that, this is a welcome addition to the franchise that's well worth experiencing if you're a fan of the maniacal Monokuma and all that he stands for.
This is the best game in the serie. I like story of DR 1 and especially DR 2 but I could not deal with their graphics letting appear 2D characters in free move graphic adventure game. Anyway this 3D shooter game solves my problems with graphics and let me enjoy nice story one more. The game still requires lots of reading so it is not for anyone. DAE's graphics are really good, Spike really showed up what they can do. Story is enjoyable and even I usually do not play shooter games I like DAE's gameplay. Create this game was definitely good choice and I would like to see more similar danganronpa games in the future. This is very good game but still not perfect, the game tends to be repeatable (challenges) which is a bit boring when you are close to finish the game and you already cleared about 30 of them and they all are still very similar.
Graphic - 9
Gameplay - 8
Lasting Appeal - 8
Execution - 8
Overall - 8,25
This was a odd one to me. On one hand, I really liked the TPS gameplay and the story. On the other, I wasn’t really into the characters and it only really felt like “Danganronpa” near the end. Overall still a good time, but not a game I’d replay in the near future
If you have just come off the danganronpa high of completing the first two games then this game would not disappoint (much), but if you're coming back after a long time or if you are a veteran gamer you'll most likely be sorely disappointed with the overall mechanics of this game.
The battles are repetitive and uninspiring, it doesn't matter than the story telling stays true to its predecessors, the fact that the fighting mechanics are integral to the storyline pretty much makes it inexcusable; it becomes tiring after hours of the same point shoot point shoot point shoot. They try to mix it up a bit with varied bullets and rooms that ask for specific accomplishments but even that is let down by bad design rather than error on the player's part.
Overall this game is the weak link to a strong series, it really doesn't do this franchise justice. If you're interested in how the story line progresses I suggest reading the game's wiki to find out or even just watching the play throughs with all the fighting mechanics cut out. Don't waste your time with this game.
The worst part is chapter 3, if you know what I'm talking about. That part alone makes this game deserve a 0/10. Don't know how anyone gave the game's writing a thumbs up after playing through that part. The game never should've hit the shelves.
Overall, the gameplay is repetitive, annoying and uninteresting. The plot is boring, Junko has manipulated kids to take over the world and you have to stop them with the overused cliche 'Hope'. None of the characters other than Nagito interested me, and even he was worse than his appearance in Danganronpa 2. The game is full of unnecessary fanservice.
SummaryAfter the horrors have ended at Hope's Peak Academy, society is on the verge of collapse and violent anarchy has engulfed the whole world in despair. Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls is the pre-sequel to the mystery adventure game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Unlike the first 2 installments, players assume the roles of...
