Although playing as Daud might seem a strange choice, his complex life lends itself to an interesting narrative. This interesting narrative offers new insights into the city of Dunwall and one of the original game’s most unsympathetic characters.
After Dunwall City Trials, The Knife of Dunwall is a more "traditional" DLC that offers good quality and quantity of content. It's almost like a digest version of Dishonored, with the same kind of exploration, freedom and replayability. There's a bit of "been there, done that" feeling with the locations, but it's kind of inevitable. Fans of the original game should not miss it.
The first part of this DLC is one of my favorite missions in all of Dishonored. But then the last part is easily my least favorite mission in all of dishonored. It's just a reused level from the base game and it's VERY plain in it's presentation. The second mission also feels significantly more empty than most dishonored missions and while it isn't bad, it certainly feels like a bit of an afterthought. Still, it's a damn fine DLC and I love Michael Madsen as Daud, so more Daud is always good.
The Knife of Dunwall for Arkane Studios' stealth game was not a bad extension, but the DLC itself was not particularly engaging either. I was honestly expecting something that would focus a bit more on the developed world of Dishonored -- but instead followed a rather isolated story of Daud, an antagonist of the original game, which ran less than compelling; and likewise, ended quite disappointingly.
The Knife of Dunwall is a great expansion of this rather interesting universe that puts together an interesting, if a bit of a half baked story. Daud is also a great character who is voiced by the always excellent Mr Blonde (Michael Madsen).
