Despite the somewhat limited multiplayer mode, Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure is still top notch. The Dragon Ball fans will love it, of course, but even if you're not into the series, it's definitely worth checking out.
  2. Don't be expecting one of those RPG's like Buu's Fury though, this is Dragon Ball the way you first expected it to be-full-on action, and it's pretty good considering that this is the first side-scrolling Dragon Ball game released in the states.
  3. Not only is this game quite the treat for fans, though, it also holds its own admirably against other action titles available for the system. Though it's no "River City Ransom," think of it as "Metal Slug Lite."
  4. Dragon Ball fans should definitely pick this game up, and non-fans should at least consider doing so. Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure is a fun, diverse action game that does the license proud.

Unless you're a huge fan of the series there's really nothing new and amazing in the product for you. For anyone who watched the show (or is a huge classic gamer) there's a ton of solid gameplay to be had, however.

Not only is Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure the best Dragon Ball game yet released, it's also an enjoyable, good-looking, technique-filled action game in its own right that's held back only by a misguided shot at diversity an innovation. [May 2006, p.94]
  7. Folks looking to this game to fill in the gaps before Dragon Ball Z will have a better time just spending their money on one of the DVD sets (preferably uncut, if you're 18 or over).

I hate side scrollers but this one amazed me! You have full controll of a very skilled character (goku) that have plenty ways to avoid getting killed, is tough enoughnto not die to every needle on the screen (talking to you sonic) and not full of holes to fall like mario. I think what I hate the most on side scrollers is that their main “weapon” is to jump on heads, but goku has a full set of moves, combos, dashes, stick, ki blasts, the whole package! Must Play! A gem that went under the radar.
Dragon ball does not have many titles / games surrounding its story other than some wii Exclusives and DS, so every game counts. This one is an amazing story that covers the entire dragon ball saga from goku and bulma meeting for the first time all the way to king picolo. The game is a combination of 2D platforming and beat them up first and a fighter second. You play the story as Kid Goku and upon completion you get to play as Krillin. There are plenty of collectible item that you need to complete by playing the story as both heroes. However this is not the end cause as i mention the game also have a fighter mechanic. Several stages, mainly the tenkaichi series and some main title bosses are fought in a classic fighting style with a surprising well establish battle mechanic. You can also fight againts your friends if you connect with a cable and have 1 copy each. You can play as Goku, Krilin, Jackie Chan, Tien, Tao Pipi and Grandpa Gohan!

This is a perfect example of what a Dragon Ball game should be.

There's a ton of playable characters in this game, many who are rarely seen as playable characters elsewhere or who've never been seen as playable before, period. There's even a good number of characters completely exclusive to this game. Granted, they're just the cannon fodder minions and grunts, but still cool to see so many playable characters.

Besides the swathes of playable characters, this game is simply great in gameplay as well. Action is fast and easy to control but hard to master, fittingly. Hits are satisfying to land with the meaty sounding crunches of punching and kicking the opponents. Hard to describe the satisfaction, but it's on par with Streets of Rage in that regard.
Another thing worth praising this game for is the absolutely amazing soundtrack. Especially the boss theme. All of it does what a Dragon Ball theme should do, and that's get you pumped for action and intense fights, something this game has both of in spades.

Oh, and something that they really nailed here was the sense of adventure throughout the game. While majority of newer Dragon Ball games (and most of them in general) are just slug fests, this game balances that with a feeling of exploring a wider world, something FEW DB games have ever managed to pull off.

I have but a couple of complaints about this game, however. One such being some of the inaccuracies to the story. Example being Tambourine losing to Goku in their first fight, as well as Roshi losing to Goku in the 21st World Tournament, which defeats the purpose of him being humbled by being beaten by Roshi. Nothing major there, just a small gripe, as it doesn't heavily influence the overall story at the end of the day.
My other complaint is the lack of checkpoints and the weird level design. Often, I'd find myself dying or being thrown into inescapable pits, and the vastness of the levels combined with the lack of checkpoints made quite a number of the levels frustrating,

All in all, DEFINITELY the best Dragon Ball game you could ever have the chance of playing, and I highly recommend seeking out a copy quick.

The gameplay is simple, short, yet quite satisfying. It has difficulty settings which is not very common for GBA games.
