  1. One of the most interesting titles to come out for the Nintendo GameCube and any Cube gamer would be foolish to pass a game like this up.
  2. Deftly avoids the many pitfalls of AI squad tactics, and this, combined with great control, mission design, and presentation, makes for a truly fantastic game.
  3. While the gameplay is pretty tight, it’s the addition of charisma and squad mates that sets the game apart.

Eliminating enemy forces and hoisting our country's colors high above Manhattan rooftops never feels repetitive... Sadly, Freedom Fighters is over too quickly, it's easily completed during a weekend sitting. [Oct 2003, p.131]

It's far less intricate than a regular squad-based game, yet it retains all the elements that make them fun - as opposed to a title like Brute Force, which had none of them. A fine display of IO's creative talent. [Oct 2003, p.116]
  6. A good third-person, team-building, shooter for the GameCube. But it needs more depth to the AI, longer levels and less linear missions.
  7. The story may be weak and the opposition dumb; the lack of depth doesn’t have to stop you from having a great time blasting some Soviets in this otherwise decent game.

The recruiting system is truly unique. the only downside, which is minor, is that the game is a little on the short side. the multiplayer is so much fun to play with friends, and the game has the best style ive ever seen in a gamecube game. kinda reminds me of the revolutionary war. long live chris stone! Easily the best squad-based shooter for Nintendo. The multiplayer mode is my favorite with 2-3 friends hecticly fighting for the flag.

This game is probably one of the best games i have played in a long time. The team feature really helps as you can leave your guys to cover you( they even use the mounted machine guns) send them into battle as you snipe for them or just lead a charge. You can also split the teams so you can leave 3 guys to cover you, 2 to go out ahead and 2 to stick with you. You can command up to 12. The storyline is great, but it was ripped off a great movie from the 80's called Red Dawn, the only difference is Red Dawn is in Colorado and this is in New York. You can see some famous places in the background, but you never really go to any. You choose a weapon before the level, bt you can drop that and take a enemies then get your old one back. The only problem is that this game ends too quickly, but it leaves the end open to a new game. And how you end the levels is truley patriotic. As you get to the flag pole of the building you captured, you take down the stinking Soviet Union flag and raise the ole red, white, and blue. This game is a must for everyone. It brings back the good old bloodshed for our nation that is truely turning into pansies. Also Red Dawn is a must see if you like this game. Expand

Vastly underrated and often overlooked. This is one of the best squad based shooters to come around in a long time.

It is truely a hidden treasure in the gamecube lineup. The controls, graphics, levels, and story are all great. It can be a little cheesy in parts, but for the most part you really want to see what happens in the story. I wish that this game had gotten more press and hype because it was different from anything out there. The control system of the other trooops in your squad make the game worth it in it's own right. If there was a sequel for this game, I would by this system just for this game! It is what a game should be...fun and addictive! Expand
