From visual and audio standpoint, Love, Money, Rock'n'Roll is a significant step up from Everlasting Summer, but the writing itself is rather muddy and downright boring.
Love, Money, Rock'n'roll: a game that deserves better.
From the very beginning of development, almost everyone hoped for a brand new visual novel experience, an enormous amount of time passed before this game finally stepped into the release but people hoped for, if not something revolutional, more than the game actually delivers.
Love, Money, Rock'n'roll offeres us plenty of different stories. However, they made me feel that something is missing, something that might have been better. Character personalities often seemed controversial, resulting in a bit of a narrational mess and deep philosophical thoughts about which answer to choose. Meanwhile in general this game is nowhere to blame for something significant.
The game excels in its artistic presentation. As in this case, it is a mere masterpiece. The character design, location details, and music feels like 80s Japan, and it's evident that the developers poured their heart into this aspect. It feels like developers knew what to do and they even were in their game themselves. Such atmosphere to create is indeed a feat. Unfortunately, the narrative struggles to keep pace and this is a huge problem.
To conclude, while Love, Money, Rock'n'Roll offers a glimpse into a captivating world of 80s Japan, it feels like a missed opportunity. The long development cycle raised expectations that the final product couldn't quite meet. Hopefully, it paves the way for future Soviet Games titles to hit the right notes.
Love, Money, Rock'n'Roll: romanticism of the eighties, mysteries and intrigues, betrayal and self-sacrifice, hatred and passion – all of this in the new game by the creators of the legendary visual novel Everlasting Summer.
