Virtue's Last Reward follows up on 999 wonderfully and delivers everything you'd want in a sequel. It's got the same kind of creepy soundtrack and cerebral gameplay 999's fans will love, but done far better. Part of that is due to it being more user-friendly, making VLR an easy recommendation for anyone who missed out on 999. Everything about how VLR plays is improved, resulting in a better experience in every way imaginable.
I recommend a lot of games to friends, but this is one of those "okay, if you only play one game on this list, make it this one" type of games. I'll go as far as to say if you don't own a Vita, Zero Escape is one of the best reasons to get one.
Pros:
- Amazing Story
- Great gameplay
- Good bad graphics (this makes sense if you played this)
- Complexity
- Ability to blow your mind
- Lovable and hatable characters
- Epic plot twists
- Has funny, sad, confusing, mysterious, scary, and shocking moments
Cons:
Has a few weird character animations
- Annoying map that you can't skip
- Could've explained To Be Continued moments better
- Spelled DUNNO ... DONNO (Yeah, I ran out of bad things about the game :/)
There's so much to say about this game, but i'll try to keep it simple: It's a masterpiece. Everything in it is so well done, the story will just get you like no other. It's the type of game that you just cannot afford missing. It's been a cornerstone in my life as a gamer, that I just can't recommend this game enough.
Zero Escape is a type of game that drives us to talk to other players, comparing the choices and externalizing our doubts, then unleashing a sociability that is rarely favored by a single player title with a structure like that.
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is a deep, engaging, and incredibly intelligent visual novel. It's a shame that the game doesn't do more with the hardware, but its meaningful player decisions, taxing puzzle elements, and unforgivably mature themes fuse to create one of the best Vita titles so far.
Great interactive drama game where you're choises truly have life and death consequences. Might be the best game ever created. The sequel 999 is also just as brilliant and the store of that game somewhat affect this game so it's good to give it a look to.
A very interesting game. The plot has many twists and a lot of different outcomes, and all the characters are unique and unpredictible. In my opinion it gets a bit to slow paced though as the dialogues can drag on for eternity it seems without you doing nothing but inhaling tons of information.
I'm sorry, but to be real and short this game is:
1) heavily slow (99% of the time you will read a beeping text)
2) static (quite nothing moves on the screen)
3) terrible graphics (except for the characters)
4) stupid character design
5) english only with japanese speech
versus
6) very interesting plots (the story is the ONLY reason I wan't to go on and finish it all)
7) very well done voice acting
8) beautifully realized characters (the only think you can actually watch in this game, expept for their way to dress)
9) puzzles room are fun and intriguing
That's it: a game with a nice core but terribly presented.
Wow, is this game overrated. It's essentially Myst, set in a dystopian Big Brother setting. A story puzzler with terrible writing (the characters and dialogue are atrocious, imo), terrible puzzles, and sad visuals. Quite a let down. I wish I got the great experience out of it that many others clearly have.
This is the most boring game i've ever played. I've been in the game for 5 hours now, and I have completed 4 puzzles in about 30 minutes. So, for 4,5 hours i have read a lot of text and that's it! This is tipically a game for an iOs or Android device for about €2,-. But the price in the stores is €40,-! Ridiculous! The story is boring, it has been done better in movies like House of 9 and Identity, wich are not that great either. The amount of text you have to go through is insane. If I want to read alot, i pick up a book and go read. If i want to play a game, i actually want to PLAY! I really can't understand why IGN gave it a 9.5/10 and why it's score is so high here on Metacritic. So is it really that bad? Yes, the only good thing i can come up with are the graphics that are pretty good. Characters story can be very deep, but after 3 hours I didn't care anymore. I just skipped all the text because the puzzles are very well done. I wanted to do the puzzles and didn't care about the story at all. If there were more choices to make in the game it would be more interesting. Now i only have the feeling i watch everyhting and don't make a part of anything. So, if you like to read much and have a few challanging puzzles, this is your game. If not, stay the hell away from here.
