Madden NFL 18 was a standout title in the long-running Madden franchise. With its advanced graphics and immersive gameplay, it easily stands as one of the best sports video games of all time. From the lifelike player models to the realistic stadiums, Madden NFL 18 transported players directly into the heart of the NFL. The gameplay was smooth and intuitive, offering a challenging yet fair experience for players of all skill levels. The addition of the Longshot story mode was a great touch, providing players with an engaging and emotional storyline to play through. The games online multiplayer was also top-notch, offering a deep level of customization and intense competition. Whether playing against friends or battling it out in ranked matches, the online multiplayer in Madden NFL 18 was a true test of skill. Overall, Madden NFL 18 was a triumph in sports video game design and set a high bar for future titles in the series. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a newcomer to the Madden franchise, this game is a must-play for any fan of American football.
So, is it worth buying two years in a row? The answer is probably a bit of a cop-out. No, it’s not. But, this is only because annually released sports sims never are. But – and this is a big “but” – Longshot is different, and it’s an experience worth having. MUT has never been more engaging, while online is packed with modes and runs great. Madden has never been friendlier to new players, and, who knows? Like me, you might learn something new about football.
Madden 18 is a very solid product, featuring the best passing mechanics I’ve ever seen in a football game. The game has come a long way improving the physics and collisions, and overall presents a great product on the field, despite a few glitches. Some of those glitches can cause fatal errors, and there is no more hilarious fatal error than the hacky Longshot interactive movie/football experience that I can imagine ever being in a football game. Overall, this is a really great Madden release with a few errors that need fixing.
Most of the Madden 18 experience is exactly what you expect, but the twist is the new exceptional Longshot mode that proves sports can be an avenue for video game storytelling. Turn off false start, offensive holding, and instant replay; raise catching ability through the roof; and stay away from the slimy Ultimate Team mode. Do that and you'll have a good time with Madden 18.
As far as adding anything new and of value, Madden NFL 18 is mostly devoid, and for that reason it’s also difficult to recommend when you have just a one-year-old predecessor that will offer the same core experience for half the money.
This was a great madden. Longshot is amazing and the graphics are spot on. However, the referees are still awful and getting a call overturned by challenging is like 1:1000000. Also, not enough things to do and the franchise is still not at its full potential.
Things to do: 3/5
Madden for me has been pretty fun but one major thing that bugs me is the random crashes that happen while im in the middle ****. I understand that the game is still fairly new but I mean this is something that continues to happen and hasnt been fixed yet, it bums me out because overall i genuinely enjoy the Madden franchise.
Played through 65% of the longshot storyline, and it took me hours. There is so much unskippable guff, with random pop up inputs required so sporadically and without warning, that it's borderline torture. It froze on me and I had to re-play some sections, and I still couldn't skip it. Some of the controls in this section are so different to the normal gameplay, and are thrown at you without any warning or explanation.
The graphics are great. The general gameplay is the same. The term GOAT is overused more than the greatest of all time goat farming convention.
If you haven't bought one since about madden 15 then sure, upgrade. If you own 16 or 17 then save your money for something else.
