A great basketball engine with improved physics and new moves, finely detailed and rich graphics, and modes both diverse and immersive all combine to make NBA 2K3 the best true representation of basketball out there.
The key is the gameplay. While there are some nagging issues, the game is balanced overall and will appeal to fans of the game.
When played head to head [with "Live 2003"], 2K3 feels a little slow, a tad unexciting and a touch old school, but it still looks and plays the closest to real NBA basketball. For hardcore hoops fans, that's what really matters. [Dec 2002, p.59]
NBA 2K3's great gameplay, in-depth franchise mode, and functional (albeit shoddy) online play make it a must-have for fans of the sport.
Although the player models look better than they do in EA's game, the movements aren't as fluid. Some of the animations (especially passing) are a little awkward. [Nov 2002, p.88]
