I truly love this game. It has everything a hockey fan could want. From the improved animations to the great Franchise mode to the great Pick Up and Play mode, NHL Hitz Pro is a necessary purchase. [Oct 2003, p.84]
There's no doubt that Hitz Pro is the best hockey game of this year, though a lack of online play in the UK and no option to play classic Hitz gameplay will disappoint fans.
One thing I'm wishing for more of in Hitz is crazier hitting, fighting, and commentary. [Oct 2003, p.62]
The feel of parody is gone; rather than being a wild action game based on hockey, this year’s edition is a hockey game with some wild action.
While its simulation dreams don’t match competing games, it offers enough of a varied experience to be considered a good, solid combo of the two sports game styles.
While the constant setting on fire and craziness of the old Hitz will be missed, there are still plenty of high scoring games and big hits to be had with the new title.
By 'refocusing' the game to concentrate on the more realistic side of the sport, Hitz Pro takes the series down a new path that loses any sense of identity that it might have made for itself. [Dec 2003, p.124]
