In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the 'B' company fight their way through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. With a heavy arsenal of deadly weapons and a slew of vehicles to aid them, the crew set off on their mission and they are ready to blow up, shoot down, blast through, wipe out and utterly destroy anything that gets in their way. Total destruction is the name of the game, delivered as only the DICE next generation Frostbite engine can. [Electronic Arts] Expand

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is as complete a package as you could ever ask for. Multiplayer-heavy titles can be a fickle beast, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be playing this one for quite some time to come.
  2. 93
The last installment in the Battlefield series offers more action and fun than ever.
  3. All in all, don’t let the rather generic and short single player campaign deter you from picking up Bad Company 2. The multiplayer is a fantastic gaming experience and without a doubt it gives Modern Warfare 2 a run for its money.
  4. For all the thrills the single-player might provide, it’s nothing compared to what’s in the game, when you go online. It’s always thrilling, memorable and a joy to be part of the fight, a fight where your contributions matter for the entire team in big ways, even if it’s not always immediately apparent.

Bad Company 2 is a great single player experience, but a near Godly multiplayer one. A must play for shooter fans, especially in the PC community.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 does what it does best: create a multiplayer experience which lifts it head and shoulders above the other shooters. All the pieces come together perfectly in an online that brings out the best of the Battlefields, with Rush as the pièce de résistance. Too bad that the sub-par singleplayer brings down the score quite a bit.

Modern Warfare plus squads and vehicles, and minus the stick up its arse. A solid multiplayer FPS. [May 2010, p.66]

The graphics are superb, gameplay is fair and exciting, the environments are vast and well designed, single player is a blast, and online play is addicting and fun! Exceeds COD and my exceptions

Cons: The Team-Play factor is reduced in comparison to BF2. The game seems to be dumbed down a bit in regards to control and gameplay commands but for anyone who hasn't played BF2 that shouldn't be an issue. Also, this game is very demanding on your PC.

Summary: Amazing game and certainly one of the best current multiplayer FPS games released. Lacking some of the Pro's from past BF games but makes it up for it in other areas. If you have the money and good enough PC buy this game. If you are debating between this and COD...This wins hands-down. Very well developed game.

*NOTE* Bare in mind that a majority of the bad ratings that are holding this game back are because the user did not have a computer that could handle the game...For anyone giving this game a bad review because there computer can't handle the game is utterly moronic. I'd rather have a good quality game rather one trimmed down just so people with out-dated computers can play. To even review game that you haven't even played is pointless...So I recommend everyone just ignore those comments and just make sure your system meets the recommended requirements.

Played MP and SP for the last 8 hours straight. Had one freeze up in SP, but loaded it back up after and resumed from previous save. Graphics blew me away on my GTX260 running at Medium. My clan's hosted server is running strong and we had a great time. Squad based play is key to winning. Weapons are sweet, ranks and unlocks are cool. Stat tracking, server browser, friends list all work well. Controls easy to map to BF2 settings. Zero complains here. Expand

TheIf you are looking for a replacement to Modern Warfare look no further. This game has the best modern battle scenes for a multilayer game. The people who dislike it are the people who want a Call of Duty Multiplayer experience. The game is team based! You can not win by running around in circles just knifing every one. The game wont work like that. You can however play as a team member and take out buildings and tanks. Most structures, shacks and trees are destructible. What does this mean? No more camping. Yes you can still camp however if you use a wall for cover forget about it! All classes are well balanced. The exception is the Recon (Sniper) class. Due to Gravity effecting every projectile the most commonly played class is recon. 80% of your teams failures are due to too many recons who cant it the red on a barn. Moral to that story play other classes to help the betterment of the team. Graphic wise this game looks amazing. The one and only downside of this game is that you can not prone. Due to this game being designed for both console and PC it must have been because if you prone in a small game it would take hours. Not a huge issue but still something to keep in mind. Expand

War games are nothing new – we already had CallAt the time of its release, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare received almost universal praise. War games are nothing new – we already had Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and to an extent, Wolfenstein – but Modern Warfare really did modernize the first-person shooter, and people liked that it reflected war as it currently exists in the Middle East, not war as it historically was. Electronic Arts eventually countered ActiVision’s hit title with a series of their own, the Battlefield series, and hired a developer that almost came out of nowhere, DICE. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 came out three years after Modern Warfare, and proved EA could modernize the war game genre as well as anyone else. The only bad news is it’s a lot of narrow passageways until the “battlefield” opens up, and there is a dense fog-of-war, obstructing faraway targets. Truth be told, EA and DICE proved a point: not only could Modern Warfare be replicated, it could be improved.

As the late Ryan Davis of Giant Bomb said, Bad Company 2 follows “a ragtag group of misfits.” You, Marlow, and teammates “Sweets,” Haggard, and Sarge are attempting to stop a Russian called Aguire from terrorizing the United States on its homeland, for example, by disabling the power-grid. A lot of comedy comes from Haggard, a southerner, who, for example, gets on the case of your helicopter pilot, who says he’s a pacifist. The game has you chasing clues around multiple locations in South America.

Again, you are sadly following a linear path, but open areas are in the game. You could be with your squad-mates in the jungle, and there is only one path forward. At times, if you venture out of the battle zone, the game gives you a warning and a ten-second timer to get back in fair territory. My old roommate loved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, but showed me how some open plots of land are blocked by invisible walls. It’s the same idea. Still, there are open combat areas, but now the biggest offense is “fog of war.” Probably in an effort to get away with low-resolution textures, the farther you look, the less you can see. Still, the combat really does feel modern, as you look down your sights and target the enemy.

The game actually has fantastic character models. I think you could use these exact character models in a next generation game, and nothing would look out of place. There is a realistic woven-cotton texture on everyone’s uniforms, and detail is right down to individual finger movements. The environments aren’t too bad. The game features “destructible environments,” so a house wall could crumble, exposing one’s cover. I thought it was a neat trick, but it was clear the walls were meant to break only in certain ways. It isn’t something you see in modern shooters, unfortunately. I think graphically, the game was at its most impressive during a boat ride down a river, with enemies talking on a bridge above you.

Sadly, the campaign is four and a half hours, but in 2010, that was reasonable for a first-person shooter. The thinking was, We’ll add hours of playtime with multiplayer, but I hardly touched it, preferring the single-player mode. Of course, Battlefield multiplayer is a big deal now, with Battlefield V and the Star Wars offshoot Battlefront. For me, DICE proved exactly what they needed to prove: another game’s success can be duplicated in a short turnaround time. It’s straight out of the common college business book, The Innovator’s Dilemma. One who innovates in an industry will be met with copycats who can price more competitively, sometimes forcing the innovator out. That said, Call of Duty still exists, but many don’t take it as seriously now, with the very disappointing Call of Duty: Ghosts, the silly space themed Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and the poorly reviewed Call of Duty: WWII. Any modder that can lift the fog deserves recognition. Otherwise the game is near perfect.

The gameplay, graphics, sounds, and environments give the game an Bad Company 2 is one of the better FPS titles to come out in recent years. The gameplay, graphics, sounds, and environments give the game an immersive theatrical feel. War Tapes also adds a nice level of immersion and so do the dynamic voice responses to battlefield situations and kills. On the down side the game is very buggy. There are literally thousands of users with crashing and other stability problems with the game. There are also some other issues with connectivity that are being addressed. There are some weapon and class balance problems as well that leave many players wondering what EA was thinking. The maps however seems pretty well balanced, though some of them have quite a few glitch spots that are too easy to exploit if you know where they are. In all reality, BC2 feels more like a $50 beta test than a retail release. That being said, it's still fun to play and much better than other games in its class like MW2. The game does require a decent gaming rig to play, so keep that in mind. Better yet, you may be better off waiting until the game goes on sale. Maybe by then the stability issues will have been corrected. Far from a 10, a 7 seems like a fair rating since the game has a lot of potential. Expand

Sure, it has dedicated servers, but the browser limits options like not showing the IP address. The idea of destructible environments is great, if only the enemies showed tactics of some kind. Everyone claims the game has excellent sound. Sorry, but some of us don't use 7.1 surround sound, and for us all the in-game sounds seem muddled. Gunshots sound terribly generic and both reloading and the ease at which you die is pathetic. The maps are too large, yes, too large. Call of Duty: World at War gave a better sense of battle tactics. Sure, it was every man for himself, but at least you didn't spend so much time walking across the map, looking for an enemy. The graphics aren't terrific for the terrible frames per second they produce on lower end machines. Running causes you to drift to the left and getting hung-up on the environment is way too common. Heck, even Modern Warfare 2 was more fun than this. I really want to like this game, it has some good "borrowed" ideas. The trouble is the execution. For instance, don't show a cutscene and sgive you control of the camera, only to fade to black. If you are going to use the in-game graphics for cutscenes, give back player control and let them continue playing. I'm pleased the developer wanted to give PC gamers a break (and for that alone they deserve a combined rating of at least 5), but after playing 100's, and I mean hundreds of PC games this particular effort justs smacks of port. In conclusion, poor optimization, poor sound, poor story, and the lack of immersion just ruin what should of been a great game. I wouldn't be so upset if I didn't want to enjoy the game as much as I do. Expand
