Bravely Default II (PC) is an excellent JRPG for those new to the series and want to relive the strategy found in Final Fantasy V OR for those familiar with the Bravely series who have yet to play BDII on the Nintendo Switch. The improvements that exist in the PC (Steam) version elevate BDII’s quality, but there is little reason to purchase this game if you’re already playing it on the Switch.

We don’t get JRPGs of this caliber every day. With a turn-based battle system that not only facilitates experimentation and customizability but also serves up a real challenge, Bravely Default II is a game that knows how to engage its players. Its narrative doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but there’s tangible effort put into these characters and plenty of surprises to be found along the way. The addictive moment-to-moment gameplay and the amount of content on offer is well worth the price of admission on either Switch or PC, but it’s hard not to prefer the latter for its higher resolution and smoother framerate. It really gives the game’s beautiful artwork the treatment it deserves.

While the combat system of the Bravely Default 2 is unique and offers a high risk, high reward style of gameplay not seen elsewhere, the overall experience plays out in classic JRPG fashion. I had fun grinding out XP for the jobs I wanted, with it never feeling like a chore, the true sign of a well made JRPG. The lack of mouse support for the PC version though is next to unacceptable with all the menus you work in. Classic JRPG style, not necessarily a modern day classic. The lack of true innovations keep it from perfection.

Bravely Default 2 was a good but safe JRPG on Nintendo Switch when it launched earlier this year. On PC, despite being a bare-bones port, most of the technical issues that plagued the Nintendo Switch version are resolved with it looking and running massively better. This is the best way to play Bravely Default 2, but it should’ve been a more fully-featured port.

Bravely Default II is a very flawed but good RPG that deserved a better PC port. With a lack of options that still somehow result in smeared textures, the console version is still the way to go at this price.

Like Octopath before it, a wonderful JRPG from Square who knows the genre almost too well.

Definitely looking forward to further from this series.

Thus, you can experience many new faces and environments in the interesting storyline of the game. The pretty environments and game elements bring out a pleasant feeling in the player. Very little has been changed in the sequences and systems, so the symbiosis of random battles and free game customization works flawlessly. The turn-based battles also run smoothly and the difficulty level is also playable. Here you can always change or even increase it according to your own performance. If you want to experience a great role-playing game, you should take a look at the PC version of Bravely Default 2.

The supporting cast of characters all fit in neatly with the world and elevate the game itself. The protagonist, Seth, sounds like a really bad anime dub. It's kind of tragic when we have to hear from one character more than any other and that character has a really dull performance from a seriously miscast talent. Expand
