This game is being developed by the same team that created the original title, Soldiers: Heroes of World War II. Faces of War immerses players right in the heat of WWII action. The game includes all the highlights of the original and provides even better physics and unit models, complex team AI and new tactical opportunities. New unit commands such as move to cover and charge position help team survival while new personal moves like climbing over fences and aimed-shots keep individual soldiers fighting. Four new campaigns give players an opportunity to command American, English, Soviet and German troops during world-renowned battles that include D-Day and the storming of Berlin. On top of all that players will also have a chance to fight through new winter missions that give them a whole new experience. Faces of War demonstrates a completely new level of AI that allows players to gain full control of units on one hand and to concentrate on more strategic aspects on the other. AI controlled soldiers don’t simply execute any order given by a player, they think how to do it the most efficient and safe way. From now on all human units in the game possess a new characteristic - morale, which is influenced by many in-game events. [1C Company] Expand

Multiplayer mode needs some redesigning, too, but otherwise the package is pretty darn impressive. [Oct 2006]

For all the action, for all the explosions, for all the adamantium-spined squad members, it's really not for the impatient - but if you don't mind fighting the control system as much as the Krauts, it's a refreshingly different take on what was rapidly becoming a tired setting. [Nov 2006, p.74]
  3. When it comes to cutting-edge WW2 strategy there are other worthy options besides the highly-decorated "Company of Heroes."
  4. Faces of War has its moments ... some good ones and plenty of frustrating ones.
  5. Faces of War wins on several fronts with its attractive destructible environments and solid multiplayer options; unfortunately, it falls short of total victory with frustrating AI and extensive micro-management duties, especially in single-player.
  6. The stability problems really detract from the experience.

If I'm ever drafted for another tour of duty like this, I'm gonna shoot myself in the foot. [Holiday 2006, p.78]

The unique thing about this game is the direct control mode which makes it so you don’t have to rely on stupid AI leading your characters.
A campaign with non repetitive missions is the greatest thing on this game, you command the Soviets in the attack on Berlin, or the Germans in the operation Wacht am Rhein, or the Americans on Omaha beach, it is the JEWEL between the older RTS games.

CoH beats this game ONLY in the fact that it has a solid single player campaign. If you have a PC to play CoH at high Res then this game should be no problem. On my "aging" Ti 4200 I was impressed be the levels of detail in the environment and units. Expand

That havent even bothered to check the use of english for the in game instructions, mission descriptions etc.
The beautiful scenery blocks your view of almost all the action.
was never really sure if an action I had clicked on was goung to occur or where it was going to affect.
The mision I played, which the first part was to blow up the radar dish, seemed to get completed despite the fact I had no idea what was going on.
I've seen reviews on this game elsewhere on the web say how wondewrful this game is. They did not play the same game I did.
