When you take Feather at face value, it’s a lovely little game to have on the Switch for times when you’ve had a stressful day and want something to distract yourself. It would be nice if the game offered some guidance or a simple mission structure to give you more purpose, but as Feather is right now, it’s enjoyable if you go in knowing it’s a short, relaxing, simplistic experience.
If you want a mindless game that will give you an opportunity to just get lost in thought as you move the thumbsticks of your Joy-Con around without much care, then Feather is pretty decent. But something this low on content gets stale pretty quickly, despite its beauty.
This simple game is surprisingly fun. I think the reviews' low scores largely have to do with the lack of information presented to the player. I just played and encountered other birds for the first time, which was amazing.
Could it be improved? Absolutely, and I will be in line to buy their next game. But I think you should definitely check this out for something different.
So simple. So fun. So relaxing.
Simply this is a game were you fly around as a bird, and that's about it But WHY WHY DOES IT GET A 7 YOU ASK? Here is why ever just get home from a long day at work or school and you thought well that **** I am not in the mood to put any effort into a game like Mario Maker 2, or Legend of Zelda botw which requires me to think yeah i've been there and so have you the price might not be fair but after those days you come home drained and need to relax this game does that for you. A soundtrack that changes based on where in the map you are, a breathtaking landscape simple buttons. If you ever just need a game to play after a mentally draining day bust out the joycons and load this game up and get lost in the world and let your negative thoughts about the day fade away as you take flight in this game.
Despite its moderate size I explored everything Feather had to offer within about 20 minutes and if anything I felt more like taking a nap than being calm. On a technical level, the game is solid, but from a standpoint of having fun? This bird could have used a little more time to roost.
There are a handful of things to really like here, but when it comes down to it, there’s an unjustifiable price tag hovering over a game whose content is as light as a feather.
While I like the intent that Feather brings to the table, its ideas are implemented in a subpar fashion. This is a proof of concept, whose asking price doesn’t reflect its current modest state. I can’t recommend it unless a sizable update arrives to unlock its potential.
Feather could be good, if more fleshed out. Flying around catching fish, picking apples and lighting torches is fun for a bit, but then you realise these actions don't have any further meaning, and it starts to feel aimless. It’s like a decent demo in search of a finished game.
SummaryFeather is a serene game about exploration and immersion in a beautiful landscape. Become a bird, fly around and lose yourself in zen-like flow whilst listening to the soothing ambient soundtrack.
