Ion Fury made me feel like a kid again and it's not just nostalgia that makes the game great. The is classic run and gun FPS action at it's purest and despite running on 20 year old tech, it's still a hell of a lot of fun and is one of my favorite games of 2019 so far.

Even among its retro FPS peers, 3D Realms has put out a best-in-class experience that rivals anything released this year. The fact that such a game can come after the character’s inauspicious debut in Bombshell makes it all the more miraculous.

Ion Fury is one of the best fps old style of this generation, a perfect choice for the old gamers.

There are not a lot of flaws in Ion Fury, but it is hard to not compare the game to its Build Engine predecessors. The game definitely succeeds in carrying the torch from the Duke series, and little details like ultrawide monitor support and a jazzy soundtrack will go a long way to winning players over.

Even alongside other recent, excellent retro FPSes, Ion Fury reminds us of how much this period of PC gaming has to offer. It's surely the best thing that's ever happened in the Build Engine, and although limitations of enemy and weapon design reveal themselves over time, the swift movement and sleek maps make Ion Fury a worthy indulgence in the past.

Ion Fury knows what it wants to be: A satisfying romp through the past, emboldened by the future and metal to the max.

The issue is that it is trying to nail something that started to feel stale almost 20 years ago when a little game called Half-Life came out and changed everything.

PD: don't mind the mad SJWs review bombing the game, apparently review bombing is only bad, toxic and entitled if gamers do it, but if they do it then it's completely fair and reasonable, they are just proving the devs words, SJWs are completely nuts, same for all the enraged tr@nnies offended by the truth.

This game is amazing! I really love Duke Nukem 3D and specially Blood, both games developed on the Build Engine. I never thought I would see a new game using the Build Engine being released nowadays, but I was wrong. And is it good? It is damn good!
The graphics are incredible, the levels are large and fun to explore. The weapons are not so fun as the ones in Blood, but they are nice and the gameplay is excellent.

Edit: The game is not getting censored anymore, but people are most likely still going to remember the « betrayal » to some extent. The company needs to take this as a lesson and move forward. Nobody knows how they'll censor their future games after this, but this game is worth buying and playing if you like old school FPS.

I won't deny that the level design is amazing in this game, the level designers really push the Built engine to it's limits delivering huge detailed maps, but this is one of it's problems... as the game objectives mostly consist on collecting color keys and activating some switches to progress into the game this huge maps can became a maze at times and collecting this keys became a nightmare getting constantly lost (that is if you have disorientation problems like me). What was really cool from the classic fps that this game imitates was that the levels were small or even huge but well built that was easy to find the keys, the only problem with those games was finding the secret areas, but, this game takes some time to find the keys and even more secret areas which by the way there are many per level.
The combat really shines being brutal in higher levels just like the old times, it will really push your reactions so you won't get kill, and off course, ammo can be scarce.
The game does a really bad job into telling you what to do next or were to go.
Now the games has it's weapon arsenal but, the weapons are not that fun to use except the shotgun, but the rest of the guns you will barely use them (at least i barely use most of them, cause it was better to use the shotgun).
SO... i'm not saying that the game is bad, but it does not reach the same high as DOOM, specially, the only problem this game really have is it's levels, trying to mix some classic level design with the modern open area of today's level design is not a good mix after all.

Feels like a Duke mod that should have been released for free. Very bland and redundant level design. Did they have any Q/A? Its either super easy or impossible. Not very well optimized either, I've got a pretty decent machine and yet it struggles. Pretty telling that 3DR didn't even make the game themselves. Their last few releases have been awful. Hope they at least paid these VoidPoint guys well. Expand
