    Much like no one ever sees a shark attack coming, Maneater is a gem hidden in an ocean of offerings and those who find it will be in for a precious and fun experience.

    If you can live with the issues, you'll find Maneater to be a ridiculously good time. The aforementioned issues are a shame, but the distinct nature of being a shark and the ability to deliver mayhem in a different way. It'll remind players of what was so appealing about open-world games in the first place. Thanks to Maneater's relatively short completion time compared to other open-world titles, it's well worth checking out.

    With more in the game than the concept might suggest, this is a fun to play title and exceeded my initial expectations of how the game would be. It’s a little short and I would have liked more of it, but this is definitely worth picking up.

    Maneater may not be as enthralling as the Nelly Furtado song, but it’ll certainly make you work hard and make you want all her love because the game’s snarky personality does make you want to continue playing all the same. I’d personally wait until it goes on sale, but whenever you do purchase Maneater, I’m certain you’ll have a whale of a time.

    Considering the largely uncharted waters (sorry) of the shark simulator genre, it is hard to fault Maneater for its flaws. On the other hand, open world design has been a staple of gaming for over a decade and it is a shame to see such repetitive quest design. Along with a few too many claustrophobic environments, I have a hard time giving Maneater a blanket recommendation. That being said, I had a lot of fun playing it, and I think there is a lot to like if you can deal with a few annoyances.

    It's just a shame the journey from infant to megashark isn't populated with a wider variety of activities. Like Hooper said, sharks just swim and eat, and that's unfortunately not enough to fill even a short action-RPG like Maneater.

    The Tripwire shark has slightly sharp teeth, moves with unmanageable spasms and cannot vary either its diet or the bleak routine of a boring and mechanical hunting. Stranded on the sand, it waits for the sad fate that falls to all the fish left in the sun.

    Surprisingly amazing and fun game, very creative, interesting mechanics, action filled and full of silly jokes. But of course, it has some problems, like really annoying loads, some bugs, and camera control in battle sometimes is a bit confuse.     It's a power fantasy game, after an hour of playing I never found the game that challenging again. The different evolution upgrades are unrealistic but look really cool and are fun to use. :)
    The graphics are pretty nice, It ran okay with frequent dips in fps.
    The controls felt really clunky at first and took some getting used to, may be better with a controller?
    The human models / cutscenes look really bad and the story isn't really something to play it for.
    I 100%'d the game after less than 12 hours of gameplay, it's pretty short but pretty easy to get everything.
    I wish there was more upgrades, more animations, more missions and a bigger map, a bit of everything really, I hope that future DLC adds a lot more content into the game as it's fun and I can't find any other game like it.

    I would recommend this game on sale if you enjoy a mindless power fantasy game where you eat things as a big shork :p    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Though I was very hyped about this game, it kind of let me down. Yes it was fun, but there was a few gripes I had that infuriated me. From capping your level at 30 when you’re supposed to be the king Of the ocean and having enemies higher level than you just felt wrong. Yes you had powers (and I’ll get into that more in a few) but that still doesn’t discount not feeling like the king of the ocean as you should. The controls began to hinder the gameplay and without a full lock on mechanic to enemies, it hurt the gameplay. With a few patches they could change this problem, but as of now this is my rating. The last thing I’ll say is that the power set seemed off, not to mention minimal. 5 types of powers to acquire would have made it a much more enjoyable game, with collecting license plates for some and cashes for another, it just seemed perfect to go along with the location markers for shadow powers. I sort of liked electric and bone, but shadow powers (besides the teeth) seemed awful. Poison is always a terrible game mechanic IMO. If the electric focused more on stun and damage, the shadow should have focused on stealth and damage, giving more damage on initial attacks, maybe even possible one shots with enough base damage. Two more power sets would have equaled out in the price for this game, maybe even a higher price point if it felt good. You’re a water creature, and tidal waves and controlling the water just would have felt right. Creating whirlpools and cyclones to help with boat fights. The bone felt like a damaging tank, electric felt like damaging stun machine, and the shadow should have felt like an assassin, but it didn’t. With two more avenues, it could have been an amazing game. Maybe an implementation of a skill tree would have solved a bunch of problems. I could say a ton more, but all I will say is I hope they’re listening to the reviews, because I could see myself getting another game like this, if they made a sequel. Maybe all prehistoric sea creatures would be fun, living through the ages. Anyway just a thought. I’m a writer, so if they want to hit me up for the sequel I’d be glad to help XD (shameless plug)… Expand

    It's rinse and repeat stuff, got bored within 2-3 hrs. Some time game just crashes for no apparent reason. should have waited for sale.
