Thanks to Microsoft Flight Simulator, everybody can now get a taste of the excitement that comes with being a pilot. The game is so remarkably good at this that you don’t even need to use your imagination. Your dreams will come true on the screen.

If you’ve ever wanted to fly a plane or are simply fascinated by air travel, Microsoft Flight Simulator is a must-have. But for those with Xbox Game Pass for PC, it’s also worth a download simply for the window to the outside world it delivers. Never been to Egypt and seen the pyramids? It’s not quite the same, but flying over them in Microsoft Flight Simulator will still let you appreciate their grandiosity. Upset that you haven’t been able to go on holiday to your favourite location abroad this year? You can at least visit it in digital form while sipping a nice cocktail. Microsoft Flight Simulator is back, and thanks to modern technology it’s really come into its own.
  3. Aug 24, 2020
The skies may be an endless expanse of blue but the planet beneath it is infinitely detailed, and Microsoft Flight Simulator lays out the whole thing in a single game, waiting to be explored.
  4. Aug 23, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator was well worth the wait. For enthusiasts of past installments, there is so much to look forward to. For those who might be on the fence about a flight simulator that is virtually an endless sandbox game, the great news is that it has been added to the Xbox Game Pass on PC right from launch, and players can check it out there before making the plunge.
  5. Aug 19, 2020
With a strong starting point in terms of aircraft to use and the fact that you can fly to/from anywhere in the world and the promise of more content in the future (especially the teased VR update in the not too distant future), I really can’t recommend this enough to fans of flight! Visually stunning and a challenge if you want it to be, or a reasonably calm flight of fancy if you want that. Perhaps a little pricey, but some extreme flight simulators can go for much more, so it’s somewhat relative.
  6. Aug 17, 2020
Wherever you go, this game captures the wonder of flight, and the spiritual and emotional rush of seeing the world in a different way.
  7. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a marvelous use of technology to create one of the most wonderful and spectacular looking games I've ever played. Never a proponent of realism, it simply works here thanks to thousands of handcrafted buildings, as well as certain exceptionally detailed cities, planes and airports, giving you something that is a sheer joy to explore. This attention to detail expands to the controls of the planes, though Asobo ensured it's accessible through easy to use Xbox controller functions. Once you're past the learning curve and the full functions of the planes are at your disposal, there's little that can be said other than this as close to perfect as could be hoped. There are some very slight issues, such as long loading times - expected due to what is being loaded - but every square inch of the Earth is accessible and it's always worth the wait, particularly thanks to the number of options at your disposal. There's no doubt in my mind that this will be a platform that will last long into the future.
  8. Aug 17, 2020
Developer Asobo Studio says Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is a ten-year project with many additions to come. That makes sense, as it’s a brilliant base package with so very much to love that I can still see myself returning to for years. For me, the casual, it’s a perfect low-stakes, relaxing gaming experience. It’s a technical achievement and an excellent training aid, but it’s also a brilliant piece of escapism, transcending its purpose as a tool to become something far more widely enjoyable – and I can’t recommend it enough.
  9. Aug 17, 2020
The miracle of flight is something to savour, no matter your seat. Microsoft Flight Simulator not only captures that feeling, it manages to put the entire world in your hands.
  10. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is legitimately incredible. It's difficult to fully describe how amazing it feels to jump into a plane and have the freedom fly to and from literally any place in the entire world. The base game's 20 included aircraft feel like more than enough for even hardcore aviation enthusiasts, and the ability to adjust the assists to tailor the experience to whatever skill level you desire makes it suitable for anyone looking to fly the friendly skies from the comfort of their home. The real-world mapping data, however, takes Microsoft Flight Simulator from being just an impressive game to the most awe-inspiring simulation I've ever experienced, in spite of its less than stellar load times. Seeing famous landmarks, landing at the world's most recognizable airports, or just touching down in a remote landing strip in South America is mind-bogglingly cool and an absolutely unparalleled way to virtually explore our world.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is a game that you have to play to understand just how incredible of an experience it is. It's an incomparable adventure that consistently surprises and delights. The game provides you with all the tools necessary to conquer the unthinkable task of flying the plane. Asobo has laid an incredible platform that will provide hours upon hours of joy for both casual gamers and flight experts alike, and it's only upwards from here.
  12. Aug 17, 2020
There is nothing out there like Microsoft Flight Simulator. It delivers the entire world in unrivaled quality, combined with pinpoint precise controls and realism at a level that is unmatched. If you want a taste of the sky, this game is virtual perfection, and if you are learning to fly in the real world, nothing will reinforce what you’ve already learned more than Microsoft Flight Simulator.
  13. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a once-in-a-generation technical showpiece that will change how you look at flight sim games forever.
  14. Aug 17, 2020
This stunningly gorgeous, remarkably detailed sim is a triumph for both expert players and flight rookies.
  15. Sep 22, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 lives up to the hype, reinventing itself for a new decade of technological possibility. Accessible but challenging, and with mind-boggling graphics, this entry from Asobo will continue to be the gold-standard for years to come.
  16. Sep 15, 2020
A beautiful experience. Even with the long load times and, overall, feeling that this game is catered to hardcore players, there's no getting around just how gorgeous and fun it truly is.
  17. Aug 23, 2020
The latest version of Microsoft's Flight Simulator series is without a doubt the finest work by Asobo Studios yet, one that took full advantage of Microsoft's mapping technology to create one of the best games ever. Flight Simulator 2020 takes a huge leap forward in terms of visual technologies and sets a whole new standard for the Simulation genre, and things get even more exciting after Asobo announced that the 2020 version is going to be a huge 10-year project and the game that we have our hands on right now is just the beginning.
  18. Aug 21, 2020
Simply put, you are looking at the first next-gen game to come in 2020. Microsoft Flight Simulator is probably the most ambitious, grand and awe-inspiring game of the year - sometimes to it's own detriment.

This game has every reason to grow into something even more special over time. And it’s starting from a position of strength. The game’s appeal is undeniable to a certain kind of person. I’m somewhere between neophyte and sim veteran, and Microsoft Flight Simulator has won me over. It happened when I picked a flight path from a small, grass airfield in Brazil to an airport in Sao Paulo. It feels so good to learn the characteristics of your plane while watching the sunset give away to a purple sheet of stars. And I’m confident that most people will end up feeling the same way if they’re willing to give the game a chance.
  20. Aug 18, 2020
It’s more than a game. Sure there are planes you can buy, events you can take part in, or modules to complete to learn more about flying, but for me what shines above all else is Microsoft’s commitment to rendering our world at a level we haven’t seen yet.
  21. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is the much awaited Microsoft Flight Simulator X's heir, built on a base that is both technologically futuristic and solid content-wise.
  22. Aug 17, 2020
A masterpiece, but beyond that a way to reach for the sky for all those people who would love to fly but can't. Microsoft Flight Simulator is a wonderful gift to flight sim lovers worldwide.
  23. Aug 24, 2020
Flight Simulator 2020 is a game that is launched with a modest amount of content that, however, will take years to master. It is a platform that will evolve over time, but it has a really fabulous visual, physical and control base.

    Aug 23, 2020
The loading times and missing features are little blemishes on what is otherwise a perfect flight sim.
  25. Aug 17, 2020
Impressive use of proprietary Microsoft's maps and AI technologies aside, Flight Simulator is outstanding for the sheer amount of freedom we are given and how far it pushes our spirit of exploration. Sim fans will have a lot to chew on, and newcomers will love the "simcade" feeling offered by the customizable assist system. It’s also on Xbox Game Pass, so go get it.

It’s not just a game, it’s a phenomenon. It lets you explore literally the whole planet – cities, mountains, lakes, rivers, even my house was there – from the cockpits of 20-30 (depends on the version of the game) airplanes. Flying experiences are also great and vary from machine to machine. I’m sure I’ll be returning to MFS for years to come. [11/2020, p.38]
  28. Sep 15, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator truly brings next gen to the masses with its extremely accurate procedurally generated world and dynamic weather system. Its mainstream appeal is sure to attract many newcomers to the world of flight simulation, which had gone stale for a while. A breath of fresh air in the endless stream of sequels and roller coaster ride action of games in 2020.
  29. Sep 4, 2020
Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2020 heralds the return of the beloved simulation series, bringing with it a first-glimpse into the next generation of simulation games.
  30. Aug 28, 2020
Microsoft surprised us with the most powerful Flight Simulator ever created containing a variety of flight challenges and training in a rich world full of life. Flight Simulator 2020 has indeed kicked off the next generation in the world Flight Simulation.
  31. Aug 26, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a one-of-a-kind experience made possible by a marriage of clever developers and cutting-edge technology. It’s a gift to the series’ dedicated fans, an appealing entry point for newcomers, and now the bar for the simulation genre.
  32. Aug 25, 2020
Flight Simulator 2020 is a gargantuan game that promises to become even bigger, richer and more technically advanced over the coming years. Fans will be delighted by the flying, and everyone else should keep an eye on expansions and DLCs (buildings, planes etc.), which will certainly elevate this true next-gen game even higher.
  33. Simulation of the Year. I will never forget that moment i crashed huge Boeing 747-8 into my house.
  34. Aug 21, 2020
A visionary, landmark release that's built with the long haul in mind. It will take a while for PC hardware to catch up with the game's potential, but despite some early technical turbulence the experience remains dazzling.
  35. Aug 21, 2020
It's a game that gives me anxiety about having to upgrade my computer. But it's also a game that gives me a great sense of calm as I cruise through clouds far above the Earth. Microsoft Flight Simulator is a tremendous experience that makes you appreciate natural beauty and man-made ingenuity in equal measures. Being encouraged to dive into the rabbit hole of learning how to operate genuine, complex machines to perform amazing feats of science is giddying, as is being able to journey across a realistic, mostly accurate depiction of our entire, beautiful planet. Microsoft Flight Simulator is a spectacular technical achievement and a deeply inspiring experience filled with glorious possibilities.
  36. Aug 20, 2020
Despite its flaws and performance problems, Microsoft Flight Simulator rises as the most ambitious and advance flying simulator for the general public. A dream come true for all the AV Geeks out there.
  37. Aug 18, 2020
It’s hard to imagine a product as ambitious and complex as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 being technically perfect right of the gate — and it isn’t. But despite some issues, when everything is dialed in and running well, the game is visually stunning and its version of the flight experience is awe-inspiring. At its best, it is a technical and artistic marvel that fully deserves (for once) the “next gen” label.
  38. Aug 18, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the most beautiful games of this generation and it's attention to detail is spectacular. This new version stands above the rest with its incredible landscapes and customizable options that allow for new or veteran players to easily get into the game, regardless of skill level.
  39. Aug 18, 2020
This is simply the best flight simulator players can play. It lacks a career mode or better tutorials and activities, but when you want only to fly, there is nothing better.
  40. Aug 18, 2020
No matter if you're a super serious flight sim enthusiast who could find yourself flying a passenger flight across the Atlantic and land the plane using a real flight map, or just want to play around in light aircrafts over the Alps, Microsoft Flight Simulator has a lot to offer.
  41. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 not only offered me a breathtakingly immersive experience, but it also helped with my fear of flying.
  42. Aug 17, 2020
Hardcore simmers will love it, and for more casual players it is still undeniably fun.
  43. Aug 17, 2020
The game marks the official entry into the next generation of visual fidelity and scope. Even if you only have a passing interest in the subject matter, it is worth a look on Game Pass just to fly over your own neighborhood or to take a short vacation to Hawaii. With everyone looking to the upcoming consoles to provide the next-generation experience, don’t let this one slip off your radar.
  44. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is simply the best flight sim money can buy at the moment, and is the rightful heir to Flight Simulator X, while making us forget about the very poor Microsoft Flight from 2012.
  45. Aug 17, 2020
While it may require a lot of effort to truly master, once you get to grips with the more advanced aspects of the simulation, you'll unlock nearly infinite possibilities. I know you hear this often, but this time, I can truly affirm that the world is at your fingertips. I'd say that the sky is the limit, but the Microsoft Flight Simulator's sky doesn't have any limits.
  46. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is by all means the most complete out-of-the-box package that out of any flight sim ever. It's advancements have pushed the genre as a whole to an entirely new standard with the promise of ongoing support solidifying its rank as the defacto flight sim for the years to come. While it has its quirks, this really is "As real as it gets".
  47. Aug 17, 2020
The work done by Asobo and Microsoft on the technical and simulation front is in fact simply colossal and cannot fail to be rewarded.
  48. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the great releases so far this year, a title in which Asobo Studio has managed to create what could become the best flight simulator of all time that will satisfy both the most purists and the more novice pilots. A realism never before seen in the genre of aerial simulation arrives with this powerful installment to PC and Xbox One.
  49. Aug 17, 2020
Asobo’s work with Azure feels like something we’ve never seen before — a true next-gen step forward that realizes the potential of cloud-based gaming more than any other game before it.
  50. Aug 17, 2020
If you are an experienced pilot and already have X-Plane with premium paid content, you won't upgrade to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Well, not right away. Because if we can find problems with Asobo's baby, none of them is insolvable and will undoubtedly see improvements to strive even more towards perfection. As it stands, Flight Simulator is already a benchmark platform that will undoubtedly establish itself as the civil flight simulation of the decade. Checkmate.
  51. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a triumphantly ambitious venture which pushes the boundaries of photorealism in the gaming medium. It requires a lot of horsepower and the support of Azure technology to accomplish such a feat, but these barriers are washed away when you're staring down at endless cities and thick jungles from thousands of feet in the air. It's breathtaking, and I hope it brings such simulators further into the mainstream.
  52. Aug 17, 2020
Completely updated and based on innovative technologies, this Microsoft Flight Simulator truly invites us to discover the world as we have never seen it before.
  53. Aug 17, 2020
Flight Simulator‘s not only great for a trip through your past, but critical in making new memories and connections in the middle of a pandemic.
  54. 90
Microsoft Flight Simulator is an absolute must for flight sim fans, but anyone with the even the slightest bit of an explorer’s nature will be sure to enjoy as well.
  55. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is not just the ultimate simulator, it’s a technical showcase that will inevitably end up catching everyone's attention. If you have a good PC, you won't be able to ignore it for long.
  56. Aug 20, 2020
An incredible exploration portal with even greater potential once its tech issues have been addressed.
  57. Aug 19, 2020
This is a sight to behold, a technical achievement that everyone should try. There are some rough edges that, we hope, will be polished, but overall it’s an incredible experience and a glimpse into the future.
  58. Aug 17, 2020
Graphically impressive flight sim, based on global map data. Great for hobby pilots who fly on sight, but with problems when it comes to big airliners and autopilot.
  59. Aug 18, 2020
Behind the stunning but hardware-demanding visuals you’ll find a complex, yet very scalable flight simulation – albeit one that has mechanical as well as technical flaws.
  60. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator returns with a delightful new chapter whose main character is freedom. Travel across the world learning how to fly properly. Graphically awesome but not so impressive as we imagined.
  61. Aug 21, 2020
The 2020 Microsoft Flight Simulator is an impressive technical achievement, above all else. The flexible gameplay mechanics allow players of all skills levels to explore this incredibly large, immersive and live world. As long as you don't look too closely and forgive some of the bugs, it might just take your breath away.

Despite the laundry list of issues that have arisen as a result of Asobo's ambition, in the end, it's those sudden sensations - especially the frequent feeling that we've finally got our hands on something truly next-gen, imperfect as it may be - that count for the most. [Issue#350, p.88]
  63. Aug 29, 2020
Those willing to fully commit to Microsoft Flight Simulator will find an immersive experience like nothing else they’ve ever played.
  64. Aug 17, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a massive generational leap from its predecessor, and every time I play the game I’m blown away by just how good it looks. From a completely simulated physics system with wind, weather and more, to highly detailed aircraft and airports, it’s truly something worth checking out. Even if you’ve never played a Flight Sim before, you have to pick up this game. Flight Simulator is a revolutionary game for all kinds of reasons, and once the technical issues are out of the way – I truly believe it will be a legendary PC game. Give it a few months, I’ll bump it up to a 5/5.
  65. Aug 28, 2020
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a perfect simulator but a terrible video game. There is no doubt that hardcore sim-players would enjoy it but most casual gamers won't. Flying a plane is hard to learn and dull to play.
  66. Oct 19, 2020
When all is said and done, Microsoft Flight Simulator in its current state reminds me a lot of Sea of Thieves shortly after launch. The game has a lot of promise and a lot of potential, but it is marred by a number of issues that keep it from really shining. Once the issues have been worked out in six months or a year from now, I fully expect Microsoft Flight Simulator to be a must-have title. Right now, unless you are a hardcore flight sim fanatic, I would pass on buying the premium version and just stick to playing the basic version that's included with GamePass.

A technical marvel, as well as an education and exploration of the joys of flight. [Eurogamer Essential]
  2. Sep 6, 2020
One of the lesser-discussed aspects of the new Microsoft Flight Simulator is that it’s the first game in its franchise to be shipped without a number. (Even the original, 1982 version was billed as Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.0.) On one level, this is perfectly reasonable: Microsoft Flight Simulator is as much a platform as a game, and the inevitable updates to it–bug fixes, performance updates, a “fix” for Buckingham Palace, etc.–are more evolutionary in character than the wholesale upgrade implied by the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 and beyond. But the lack of any numerical identifier might also be read as a statement of ambition, or even permanence: what’s on offer, here, isn’t the final flight simulator so much as it is the forever one. From the Grasberg Mine to Redmond to your computer screen, it’s Microsoft’s world; we’re just playing in it.
  3. Aug 20, 2020
Flight Simulator is a powerful platform for exploration, the perfect piece of software for a country trapped at home by a lingering global pandemic. It’s a gameplay experience that has so far rewarded my hours and hours of practice, and encouraged me to push toward mastery. Learning each new plane, each new airport, each new type of simulated weather is just as satisfying as learning a new weapon in Dark Souls. There’s also the added benefit that, while I’ll never face down a dragon in real life, someday I might find myself at the controls of an airplane. [Polygon Recommends]
  4. Aug 18, 2020
There are lots of areas that aren't fully detailed and one would hope that Asobo Studios work on beefing up the introductory side of the game ahead of its release on the Xbox One. There are times where the novel-sized instruction manuals of the past really should still exist and this is one of them. Despite this the game is still welcoming and post training you'll have no trouble jumping into any of the game's aircraft and taking to the skies - knowing the basics is enough to have fun but the amount of depth means that there's always something new to discover. Our hope right now is that Asobo and Microsoft manage to improve performance for those of us on lesser rigs and that a patch is forthcoming to help boost the frame rate a little. I can appreciate the game at less than 20fps in low settings but I would love to be truly blown away by it.
  5. Aug 17, 2020
Flight Simulator presents itself as a work in progress. A lot depends on the nature of that remaining work. It’s a game whose potential is evident, but so are the hurdles to realizing all that potential.
