NBA 2K20 makes a few missteps in several modes and the gameplay is pretty much the same as before, but it’s still a reigning champion in its genre.

NBA 2K20 doesn’t go over the edge, it doesn’t bring much novelty to the series. On the other hand, it has better defense and goes a little further as a simulation. But the micro-transactions are too strong with this one.

Even if you just want to play a basketball game and you are frightened by the NBA 2K's hardcore character with its irreconcilable gameplay or if you are still averse to microtransactions, you have no alternative. Until next year's 2K21 of course.

There are noticeable flaws in MyCareer's story and in other modes. Combine these with controversial and divisive microtransactions that have been mixed in, and you might have some qualms. However, NBA 2K20 still remains on a league of its own. With loads of content, amazing core gameplay mechanics, and unrivaled presentation, it keeps you engaged whether you're playing casually or competitively.

NBA 2K20 feels like a turning point for 2K, and not in the right way. The publisher got too greedy, and it's going to show, in the next year's earnings. It's actually detracting from a good game, turning into a casino experience. What makes it worse, is that there's literally a roulette wheel implemented, which only underlines what 2K had in mind. It's a shame, become the highlight of the NBA 2K20, like the addition of the WNBA, the improved ball control, and the multitude of other smaller changes are buried under a pile of microtransactions that make people wonder what they are actually playing. The only mode that seems to have escaped, somewhat, the microtransactions plague, is the story, which is almost good enough to keep the game upright by itself. But it's almost good enough.

I can only laugh about the casino games because they are so absurd and ridiculous. This kind of thing just does not belong in a serious sports simulation and always distracts me from the actual game, because I want to throw baskets in NBA and not spin lucky wheels. Without casino and VC, NBA 2K would be a much better game.

I've always been more into Fifa, and with the lack of innovation in those games, it doesn't surprise me at all that the NBA games suffer from the same thing. EA are simply the greediest and laziest publisher/developer on the planet. There's really no 2 ways about it. The game itself is fun, but it encourages gambling while shoving advertisements for gatorade and beats headphones in your face every minute. It's really egregious at times, especially when in the 'My Player' mode you have to actually shamelessly advertise some of these products yourself in press conferences or in interviews. It's just a really shameless game in general. EA has somehow doubled down on their scumbaggery despite all the backlash they've received over the years, and this game fully deserves being so lowly rated by its consumers. The most surprising thing to me however isn't even the gambling or the advertisements, it's how the game doesn't actually work most of the time. I don't know if it's just a really awful port for the PC, but the game is fundamentally broken and has been since launch apparently. In My Player mode if you try to simulate the game, it will go into slow motion, and you have to tab in and out of the game 6 or 7 times for it to actually allow you to fast forward and simulate the game. It's really insane to me that something that important is so fundamentally broken. Pure laziness and incompetence from EA. Expand

This is review for My Career of NBA 2K20.

I love basketball and I love playing basketball videogames. NBA 2K unfortunately has monopoly for NBA (because EA are impotent with their Live). 2K therefore can freely use shady practices without any consequences when it comes to treating their customers.

My point being, 2K significantly lowered VC earnings for My Career contracts without mentioning it. About two months after release. I played game for some time, making moderate progress (it felt better than previous releases, so there was a ray of light that maybe...). And one day you find out they stick it to you. You are back to gulag.

The game is chore, it is not fun when you dont make progress. I am not hardcore player, I can not dedicate 8 hours a day to a video game. For me this feel like backstab of filthy thief in back alley.

I dont complain about gameplay, I actually like it. The slow pace of progress diminishes what I find entertaining in actual gameplay. As I stated before, this game (My Career) is chore, it is slaving in quarry, it is gulag. I can not afford and will not pay for VC, ever.

I dont recommend this game if you are not willing to hand out (lots of) money after your initial purchase.

    I am disappointed.

Parents DON'T BUY THIS GARBAGE. It's a casino application that has nothing to do with a basketball game. Keep your children away from it.

Unfortunately, as much negative reviews, there'll be player with 600+ hours... I was like that on 2k19, but since 2k17 I promised to myself if the game didn't get better about micro transactions, servers and cheaters, I wouldn't buy anymore... 2 years I failed this promise, not anymore.

This is a huge spit on the face of their community. They are making me cheer for EA (sounds crazy right?), but they do need a strong powerhouse competition. Otherwise it'll be more of the same.
