NBA 2K20 makes a few missteps in several modes and the gameplay is pretty much the same as before, but it’s still a reigning champion in its genre.

NBA 2K20 doesn’t go over the edge, it doesn’t bring much novelty to the series. On the other hand, it has better defense and goes a little further as a simulation. But the micro-transactions are too strong with this one.

Even if you just want to play a basketball game and you are frightened by the NBA 2K's hardcore character with its irreconcilable gameplay or if you are still averse to microtransactions, you have no alternative. Until next year's 2K21 of course.

There are noticeable flaws in MyCareer's story and in other modes. Combine these with controversial and divisive microtransactions that have been mixed in, and you might have some qualms. However, NBA 2K20 still remains on a league of its own. With loads of content, amazing core gameplay mechanics, and unrivaled presentation, it keeps you engaged whether you're playing casually or competitively.

NBA 2K20 feels like a turning point for 2K, and not in the right way. The publisher got too greedy, and it's going to show, in the next year's earnings. It's actually detracting from a good game, turning into a casino experience. What makes it worse, is that there's literally a roulette wheel implemented, which only underlines what 2K had in mind. It's a shame, become the highlight of the NBA 2K20, like the addition of the WNBA, the improved ball control, and the multitude of other smaller changes are buried under a pile of microtransactions that make people wonder what they are actually playing. The only mode that seems to have escaped, somewhat, the microtransactions plague, is the story, which is almost good enough to keep the game upright by itself. But it's almost good enough.

I can only laugh about the casino games because they are so absurd and ridiculous. This kind of thing just does not belong in a serious sports simulation and always distracts me from the actual game, because I want to throw baskets in NBA and not spin lucky wheels. Without casino and VC, NBA 2K would be a much better game.

Gambling simulator, just like the last game.
1/10 because the uninstall and refund worked flawlessly

There used to be a joke about sports games being just the last year's edition with updated roster... It's no joke. This is the same gameThere used to be a joke about sports games being just the last year's edition with updated roster... It's no joke. This is the same game they've sold last year, even the icon is the bloody same! NBA 2K19 icon left behind, because... they've ruined it even more. Bugs, bugs, bugs... the whole progression is bugged, you can play but you won't see anything for your time and effort, the loading screens take ages (12 hours someone more patient pointed out). Anything I'm forgetting... oh, yeah. An open casino that takes your real-life money! Slots, pachinko, wheel of fortune, you name a game of chance and you might find it here, in a game advertised for ages 3 and up! More time went into making GAMBLING games within this title than actuall baskettball. DO NOT BUY THIS! Expand

Anyone expecting a video game will be disappointed, as this is just gambling targeted at children. Completely unacceptable.

I would not recommend this title to the casual fan. Some issues I had during the initial MyCareer included having to minimize the game windowI would not recommend this title to the casual fan. Some issues I had during the initial MyCareer included having to minimize the game window and maximize it in order to proceed through cut scenes, and the fact that the initial games are no where close to the actual experience once you jump into the actual Career mode. My character was too slow and Clunky to keep up with the All-stars the game required me to block, and wanting to run the floor as a slasher is incredibly hard considering the defense will always brick wall you at the half court line. If you want to drive to the basket you can forget about shooting anything else; 3-pt, mid-range, close shots were all under 60 points and unless you are acclimated to extremely slow shot timings, you'll get no sympathy from the shot meter, or animation. I had to put the game down after a game with the Lakers that pitted my guy against Kuzma and James, I was fouled over 30 times (couple at the 3 line) due to the tight defense that was being played, and I could free up any space to shoot, ultimately sinking 3 layups out of 24 shots. Even when I was so slightly early or late, my player would air ball close range shots like he was throwing jump-balls. The only positive I had during this game was the fact that I was able to sink 21 of my numerous free throws, which resulted in an interview that commented about my career high points (but did you see those air balls). In all, if you have the dough ($$$) to spend on bolstering your overall maybe you could do something decent, but if you're trying to grind away like me prepare for a slog. Progression on the badges was also slow, which I could understand if they weren't so critical to my player not picking up the ball after only three steps toward the basket. The 2 hr limit on returns in Steam really ruined my day on this one (game-play gets covered up behind a >2-hr career mode that doesn't represent actual difficulty). Expand
