This is a game that is conceptually sound, has solid graphics and sound and plays well. It will take time to get into and learn the intricacies of the game, but therein lies the fun and the challenge.
A unique game for a unique type of gamer. If offers a challenging blend of real-time tactics in a 3D action setting reminiscent of "Diablo" and set in the energized world of televised sports and live audiences.
While no single aspect of Nexagon is truly unique, the total package is a winner - surprisingly fun and addictive. [Nov 2003, p.110]
The problem with Nexagon is that the gameplay isn't enjoyable because of the all the elements that don't gel together in a cohesive way. The AI doesn't always work.
It straddles the line between "mediocre" and "good" with an occasional spike into "brilliant."
Somewhere inside Nexagon: Deathmatch, there's an interesting concept trying to get out, but the arena combat, base building, and futuristic sports theme never gel. The lack of clear instruction, the fun-killing load times, frequently lame combat, and some bugs and pathfinding problems don't do the game any favors.
The concept wasn't bad, but N:D's uninspiring execution and lack of depth make for a forgettable gaming experience... Rock/paper/scissors is a more challenging strategy game. [Nov 2003, p.136]
