The fact that Phantom Brave holds up over 12 years later on PC is a testament to NIS' conventions sticking and working.

With Phantom Brave, NIS was still getting into its SRPG stride and took some chances with both story and gameplay elements rather than milking the success of Disgaea. The more serious, less goofy attempt at narrative falls short, but the unique gameplay elements make this a fun and addicting SRPG in its own right. The PC port of this little gem is worth checking out even if you're not a hardcore NIS fan, particularly if you're looking for an SRPG that offers something just a little different.

Glossed up slightly, but with very little to no changes since the last re-release, Phantom Brave PC is the least impressive of all. That said, the game itself is still wonderfully great, and new players will be rewarded with the cool breeze of phantoms coming in the air tonight.

The new story is worth it for fans of the PS2 original as well, since players can jump right in without having to replay the whole main story again. Unless you’ve owned every version of Phantom Brave before this one (and maybe even if you do), Phantom Brave PC is worth picking up for any Nippon Ichi or strategy RPG fan.

Phantom Brave requires a lot of time to delve into all of the mechanics and systems available to you. The emotional storyline makes the somewhat tedious grinding worthwhile though, resulting in a great time for fans of more intricate JRPGs.

Despite its dated mechanics and lack of new content, new players will certainly find a lot to love in this grand adventure.
