Prey is touted as having an adaptive difficulty system -- the better you are, the better it gets -- and it really did seem to get harder as the game went on. As a result, there are just two difficulty settings, Normal and Cherokee, and I'd advise that even vets might want to give Normal a try on the first run out, letting the game's artificial intelligence pick up the pace to a comfortable level.
Even if you’re sick of FPSs, check it out anyway, because this is definitely not the time to turn your back on a game like this. Prey is a twisted take on the genre that shouldn't be ignored, that is, if you're not prone to motion sickness.

Насколько я помню, Prey это типичный долгострой. Честно говоря ничего хорошего от проекта не ждал, даже когда анонсировали, это была всего лишь ещё одна очередная "пострелушка на движке Doom 3".
Но время пролетело, игра вышла и... неожиданно стала одной из моих любимых игр на все времена! Прошел её раза три и на XBox 360, и на РС, очень хотелось пройти какой нибудь ремастер на следующем поколении, но этого не случилось.
В 2017 году вышел новый Prey, игра отличная, но самобытная и не имеющая к Prey 2006 ни какого отношения. Так, что и о сиквеле можно забыть.
И так о самой игре.
Это фантастический шутер от первого лица. Баллистика оружия на высоте, стрелять в игре вообще очень приятно. Это самое оружие выше всяких похвал. Оно почти всё инопланетное, выглядит отвратительно. Оно шевелится, истекает слизью, чо то там шепчет и кряхтит. Короче шикарное оружие.
Враги в основном такие типа "Строгги", это же id Tech 4, есть других ещё разновидностей пять, вообще хотелось бы побольше. Есть боссы, их несколько штук за игру.
Но отличительная фишка Prey 2006 это сумасшедшая гравитация и геймплей с порталами. Описать сложно, надо увидеть самому.
Сюжет, ну что, сюжет как сюжет: атака инопланетян, геноцид человечества, смерть близких.
Есть фишка со смертью протагониста. В игре практически невозможно умереть. После критического попадания наш герой переносится в потусторонний мир где с помощью лука набивает себе очки здоровья и маны с которыми и возвращается в игру. Да в игре есть "мана" с её помощью наш протагонист может, по собственному почину, перенестись в мир призраков как в Soul Reaver и пройти там где в реальности пройти невозможно или нажать что то существующее только в мире призраков.
Но зацепила меня по настоящему атмосфера. Да, атмосфера в игре густая и завораживающая. Играть интересно и не напряжно.
Советую всем кто не играл, даже сейчас, тем более мододелы на РС неплохо так улучшили визуалку.

though the online component has long gone the way of the dodo, this is easily the reason why people should forgive 2K. I Sank a good 35 HOurs in the first playthrough alone,and im not ashamed to say I think portal is the poor-man's prey.

The new mechanics that it adds to the first-person shooter genre will be remembered for a long time to come, and they certainly help differentiate it from the rest of the pack; something that isn’t so easy to do these days.
On occasion, what no doubt seemed like a crazy-cool idea down the pub just didn't work well in practice (spirit death-defying in particular) and fun has taken the edge off challenge, but you'd have to be an extremist alien sympathiser not to thoroughly enjoy Prey from the moment it sucks you into its viscera to the moment it squeezes you out again.
Prey's marriage of scientific and spiritual might not be the best fit, but convincing environments, dynamic gravity, and mastery of genre basics assure its status as a pleasantly solid entry into a very crowded field.
We want interesting levels. We want a variety of enemies that challenge us. We want cool guns to kill them with. Instead, the developers did what they wanted. They put doors on ceilings and tables on walls and little switches to hit to pull you where they want you to go. They forgot everything that makes games fun.
Easily one of the best games I've ever played.
Prey is a Sci-fi Shooter with a very interesting story (you are Tommy, a native American who has been abducted by aliens and the fate of the world lies in your hands), nice graphics and awesome weapons.
So if you like single-player FPS games with a tense atmosphere and a good story you should definitly buy it

I purchased Prey for a couple of pounds preowned, just on a whim. I had no idea about the storyline or features. Its a bit of a slow-burner, but some one the later levels are very interesting and unexpected. The graphics aren't anything spectacular, as many older games are more visually impressive than Prey.
The gameplay is slightly slow and unresponsive, and the weapons aren't very exciting either. The main qualities of the game are its storyline, as it does keep you interested, and you find yourself feeling for the main character, especially as the game progresses, and the enemies are also quite creepy and well designed.
Its definitely worth a go, as it is different to many other 1st person shooters on Xbox 360.

Prey was supposed to be a new reference in the FPS world but in facts it wasn't at all. The gameplay is pretty generic, except for the importance of mini puzzles that use gravity and teleportations, but the shooting is really emotionless and you won't feel any thrill when facing enemies you just shoot at them and wait for them to die, and what if they kill you first ? No worry you can't die in this game when you go out of live there is a minigame that will allow you to regain some life and relive exactly where you were at the moment of your death and that's what ruined the game, no challenge at all !
Too bad because the guns and the story were originals and I'll regret the cancelled sequel that could have been something great., instead you just go down hallways and shoot at things, there is no major default but you won't remember the game, except for its easiness.

Mouais... pas du tout convaincu par le machin, bien au contraire. Le jeu se repose trop sur ses tics (sans doute assez novateurs pour l'époque) dont il abuse (regarde, je marche au plafond trololol) ici et là et puis là et là... bref quasiment tout le temps en fait. Les "effets miroir" ou je ne sais comment appeler ça, les niveaux dans l'autre niveau (Alice au pays des niveaux, je présume) et vice-versa qui ne sont finalement qu'un nouveau genre de téléportation, me les casse un brin (et je suis poli).
Donc, ça devient barbant et je dirais même plus (comme dirait un Dupont) ça devient rébarbatif. Et barbant. Pour ne pas dire rasoir. La partie action est donc rapidement embrouillée dans ces niveaux alambiqués alors que les méchants xénomorphes nous tirent dessus et essaient de nous tuer. Et de nous empoisonner. Les sensations FPSesques sont elles aussi peu convaincantes, de toute façon.
Enfin, l'ambiance générale est clairement répugnante, cracra, cradoc et cradingue : c'est beurk ! des avalanches de mauvais goût et de dégoût dans ce vaisseau dégueulasse de mes deux ; ça donne juste envie de chier dans un couloir. Ou plutôt une coursive de ce jeu-couloir pas très beau par ailleurs avec ses textures vilaines et souffrant d'un framerate suspecté de ralentissements...
Bref, c'est un peu (beaucoup) de la merde tout ça... Mieux vaut (largement) l'autre Prey, bien plus moderne et... convaincant.
